Former President Donald Trump renewed his attacks on his former vice president on Friday, dismissing Mike Pence as a 'human conveyor belt' for failing to reject what he said were fraudulent votes in the 2020 election.
It came at the end of a week that revealed more evidence of the way he and his allies tried and failed to persuade Pence to overturn the result.
The House January 6 committee released testimony of a White House official saying that Trump called Pence a 'wimp.'

President Trump was not trying to “overturn” a presidential election.
He was trying to prevent the overt theft of a presidential election by crooked democrats and other leftists, globalists and communists.
Because he doesn't have a snowflake's chance of getting elected.
Exactly. The overturning was already done. He was trying to overturn the overturn.
I never liked Pence but in reality what was he supposed to do ??? It has been almost two years and there is still no concrete evidence of voter fraud that changed the election outcome. 2000 Mules and numerous election fraud theories are interesting but they are not legal evidence of outcome changing election fraud. Even with 2000 Mules the basic question remains how do you prove that the harvested/created ballots were for Biden ? You can’t just say “ well who else would they have been for ?” That is not a legal argument, that is an opinion. It is really hard to overturn or delegitimize any election and especially so a Federal Presidential election. That is Constitutionally untested ground. If states sent forth their electors, without clear undeniable proof of fraud the Vice President was basically bound to accept them. In January there was no such “undeniable” proof and there still in nothing other than strong suspicion. You can’t put the country into a Constitutional crisis just because you “think” something happened.
Unfortunately we may have been masterfully outflanked in 2020 and hopefully we learned some lessons.

The 12th admendment gives the President of the senate whom is the vice president the role of opening the electoral votes so that they may be counted. I dont know what law compels the VP to show up and actually open the votes so that the election can be certified. I assume maybe incorrectly that if the VP did not show up that everything could be delayed and open the possibility for the courts to get involved.
Politico has an article titled “Pence skips Faith & Freedom conference. Is attacked by Trump anyways.”
I went to it to see what Trump said (actually I already knew). But the article does not quote or even paraphrase what Trump said.
Compels? Nothing. Hubert Humphrey did not participate in the counting of the electoral vote in 1968.

If the office of the Vice President is vacant or if the Vice President does not participate then the President Pro Temp of the Senate acts in their place and the count goes on.
