Why would the Obama's want to install a 2,500 gal. propane tank at their home in Martha's Vineyard? \uD83E\uDD14

Last I checked, propane isn't "green", and 2,500 gal. is a LOT of propane

“Back when I originally bought a whole-house generator, I discovered that propane isn’t very efficient when powering a generator. I ended up getting both a gasoline powered unit and a diesel powered one to back it up in case the SHTF.”

Also water-cooled diesel engines will run practically forever, water-cooled gasoline engines are next, and then air cooled gasoline, and finally propane - you get limited engine life with propane (as I remember it).

As to efficiency, propane simply has less energy per gallon, roughly 74% of gasoline and 65% of diesel.

I agree with your figures, but even then he does not have a single 2500 gallon tank. They must know though, that we are going to have rolling blackouts like Zimbabwe, etc. ahead of time.

Property have a outdoor pool?

Remember the trouble that Gore had with his electrical costs in heating his Nashville property with the pool?

For several years we had a 5,000-square-foot house and used close to that much propane every year. It was fine until the little mile-long road back to the house would ice over for a week or so and the truck couldn’t reach us.

Yep, I coordinate usage and delivery based on a clean driveway and a forecast saying the week ahead will be dry :)

Yea, it merely escapes rapidly from the tank... until it finds a source of ignition. Then boom.

Just a year ago here summer fill was under a dollar.

2500 gallons to not a lot of propane.

I wish I had a bigger tank

Last time I filled my propane tank at the farm, it was $750. It is a fairly large tank.

I did not check local price before I posted, just looked at some national price quotes.

We are in process of getting our house at the farm livable again. Have started that project 2 times before. This time it is going to happen, we plan to be in there before the summer is out.

We have NG in town, only Propane at the farm. Fairly large house at farm, about the same as in town. NG is a lot cheaper. but nearest supply is 4 miles from the farm. Too few customers to think about extending lines.

IIRC, Obama had the White House heat turned up to the 80s.

As I like to say, you know what happened on January 6, 2021?

I filled up my car for $29.38

And that was 93 octane premium.

Likewise on the bigger propane tank.

You have it backwards. Diesel and gasoline both put particulates in the engine rings, oil, bearings simply by their combustion products and blow by gasses. Propane produces zero particulates. Due to this propane engine oil lasts three to five times longer as there is also zero fuel dilution into the oil propane is a gas it cannot dilute an oil like gasoline or diesel will. The lack of blow by and oil carried particulates into the rings bearings and valve guides means those wear surfaces also last much longer. Propane and natural gas both suffer from a loss of wide open throttle power due to the fact that the fuel gas displaces air in the manifold. This is corrected one of two ways direct injection after the intake valve closes or boosting via a turbo to a higher manifold pressure and therefore charge density. I have a propane / NG fueled generator with over a thousand hours on it it’s only had it’s oil changed twice the interval is every 500 hours after the initial break in period last I pulled the dip stick it was clear like brand new oil even after 500 hours of running it’s still only brown never the ugly black a diesel engine oil would be after a hundred hours.

He lives on the coast, so any argument he makes for ‘climate change’ and sea level rise are just moronic.

He’s no hypocrite: He’s a master manipulator.

Propane is heavier than air, so it won’t dissipate into the atmosphere without some strong winds.

Just guessing. He knows that Biden is going to cut the electric grid off this summer and he needs fuel for a generator to keep his on.

I would on a Auto/truck ferry - the initial reason for my post:

“I saw a Big propane truck get on a ferry boat, anyone was nuts to ride on the same ferry.”

‘Nuff said.
