NYPD exodus: Police on pace to quit, retire in record numbers

More than 1,500 NYPD officers have either resigned or retired so far this year – on pace to be the biggest exodus of officers since the statistics have been available, The Post has learned.

Some 524 cops have resigned and 1,072 have retired as of May 31, NYPD pension stats obtained by The Post show.

The 1,596 total is a 38% spike from the same period in 2021, when 1,159 cops called it a career, and a staggering 46% climb from 2020, when 1,092 left the force by the same date.

Anti-cop hostility, bail reform, and rising crime have fed into frustration among the NYPD rank and file, according to one NYPD officer who recently fled for greener pastures at a Long Island police department after 6 1/2 years with the New York’s Finest.

“The city is out of control — especially since bail reform,” according to the former Queens cop, who asked to be identified only as “Joe.” The mantra now is “get out while you still can.”

Joe’s patrol gig “got worse and worse” over time, he said.

“The last few years so many people had been leaving and manpower was so low that you’d go to work and you’d answer 25 to 30 jobs a day and you’re burnt out by the end of the day,” he said, adding, “there was no time for law enforcement” because it would be “radio run, radio run, radio run all day long.”

Even when he made an arrest, “they were back in the precinct picking up their property the same day.”

“Escape From New York” seems almost prophetic.

It’s difficult to remain civilized in an uncivilized environment.

“Residents would ask, ‘Why does this keep happening?’

Well, duh. Just look at who you are electing.

Of course, not everyone asking that question is a liberal. Those who lean right are probably leaving, which just makes the problem worse for those who remain.

The city is out of control — especially since bail reform.

Then the city needs to recall its DA, just as San Francisco recalled its DA last week for the same reasons.

New York doesn’t have recall. The western states were formed later in the process. They were able to see how important it is to be able to fire crooked politicians by watching the mess eastern states quickly became. That’s why you only see recall west of the Mississippi.

It would be at least somewhat acceptable if New York chose its own path, suffered the consequences, and people could go elsewhere - but all all know this was IMPOSED on America by the DOJ, courtesy of Obama and Holder.

The only reason your white suburb isn’t this way is because civil society still exists, people control themselves and crime is low - but when crime comes, the DOJ will ensure you have no control over community policing.

Ever notice a bar that has nearly 100% hard-core chain smoking patrons, where the non-smokers have been chased off by the fumes?

I imagine a similar thing happens in police departments — the “good” cops leave, making the remaining percentage of bad cops higher, and less tolerable for the remaining good cops, who then leave in greater numbers, increasing the bad cop percentage, and so on.

I hate and avoid cops. They are paid for by FEDERAL subsidies, and are loyal to the FEDS. They are sadistic, low IQ animals. Nothing good happens when they are around, and they stay away when bad things are happening.
