Or lock the door first before helping the children hide under the table.

Or was there no lockable door? The classrooms were connected...

Whatever the case, this teacher had a split-second decision to make.

He was shot right after helping the children hide.

Hindsight is always 20/20. I’ve never been in his position. I don’t really know how I would’ve reacted in that moment. Hope I never have to find out.

Another big question is the school’s alert system:

One of the teachers killed received an email that the killer was in the building. When she went to lock the door, the killer was already there.

I haven’t found an article on how teachers were supposed to be alerted. Were they alerted by email? If so, that’s not a good plan. I wish a reporter would find out.

>>>Or was there no lockable door? The classrooms were connected.<<<

The shooter entered the second classroom through the connecting door. Either the teacher in the second classroom must have already locked the door to the hallway, or the shooter locked it because the cops were dithering about getting keys from the janitor.

The connecting door may well not have been lockable. I have no idea what sort of door it was. I have seen schools where connected classrooms were separated by accordian doors taking up nearly the whole width of the classroom so that one large room could be formed.

Yes, I have been thinking the same about the teacher only having a split second to decide.

Email notification? Oh my! Yes, I hope a reporter digs in and finds out! I was wondering about the school’s alert system before, but never saw anything on it.

Good post all the way.
