The difference is that they are with the kids and there at the beginning. Not cops who have a commander who is usually an azzhole in these situations and ordering cops to stand down.

O.K. you need to be in imminent danger in your current position. The cops feared for their life in the hypothetical situation that they would move forward and do their job. Preventing parents into the school wasn't much of a threat to them.

People who are not police have stopped mass shootings several times.
Sometimes, a police officer is there, close enough.
School staff who understand what they are supposed to do, which is what the training does, tend to do well.
The problem with police is it takes them, at minimim, several minutes to get there, if they are responding to a 911 call.
The school staff is there inside the incident.
The only people accepted to be armed responders in schools are volunteers.
You assume people who have taken the responsibility to protect children they know, would ignore their training and do nothing.
Talk about stereotyping.

Honestly? I can see nothing from the GOP that would make any difference and certainly nothing from the Democrats that would offer any solutions. The time for solutions has long since passed.

The shooter entered the second classroom through the connecting door. Either the teacher in the second classroom must have already locked the door to the hallway, or the shooter locked it because the cops were dithering about getting keys from the janitor.
The connecting door may well not have been lockable. I have no idea what sort of door it was. I have seen schools where connected classrooms were separated by accordian doors taking up nearly the whole width of the classroom so that one large room could be formed.
Yes, I have been thinking the same about the teacher only having a split second to decide.

Thanks for the information. I wonder whether the media will ever ask more questions about the school’s security measures. Then, other schools can learn how to best protect their students. But, they mostly just seem to want to talk about gun control.
