The column of Russian military vehicles that bore down on Kyiv in the early days of the war was brought to a smoldering halt because a 15-year-old boy was helping to aim Ukrainian artillery.
Ukrainian teenager Andrii Pokrasa flew his drone over the Russian forces, relaying photos and coordinates to artillery units, effectively saving the capital city in late February, Canadian outlet Global News reported.
“He’s a real hero, a hero of Ukraine,” Yurii Kasjanov, a commander with Ukraine’s unmanned recon unit, told the outlet. “He was the only one who was experienced with drones in that region.”
Pokrasa said he was approached by Ukraine’s civil defense when they were looking for the exact coordinates of the Russian column.
“They provided us information where approximately the Russian column could be. Our goal was to find the exact coordinates and provide the coordinates to the soldiers,” he said.
“It was one of the biggest columns that was moving on the Zhytomyr road and we managed to find it because one of the trucks turned on its lights for a long time,” he added.
The teenager said he was ambivalent about the death of Russian troops that resulted from his information.
“First of all I was so happy, but also it was people there,” he said. “They were occupiers but anyway they were people.”
Pokrasa said he’d only purchased his first drone last summer, but quickly got hooked, flying nearly every day.
When the war began and he was approached to help spot Russian formations, he said his neighbors feared the drone would make them a target. So Pokrasa said he and his father would launch their sorties from a nearby field at night.

Sure it was. I think hebras also the Ghost of Kiev. On Snake Island. And did a whole host of other heroic things that will get him Ukraine’s equivalent to the Medal Of Honor.
Did you watch Lara Logan’s interview with Ed Henry? It’s worth watching if you haven’t.
I’m sorry, I just don’t buy the night flying. Having flown a few DJI drones using FPV, there’s just not enough contrast for the camera to be used for night flights - it’s all black.
And really, a guy in a military convoy left his headlights on?
All Ukes appear to be marvel super heroes! Amazing the amount of propaganda being spewed. “Putin has lost ANOTHER 12 star general, bringing the total to 1500! A Ukrainian 3 year old single handedly staved off Russian tanks and a battalion of 10,000 ruskie soldiers using her/his/their/them binkie as a shield! How much more can Putin take? Putin is dying!”
Unbelievable amount of propaganda. Fake news must die.
Just because you find someone to print it doesn’t mean it’s true.
The little fella had help from the Ghost of Kiev. Just think of them apples.
Lara Logan interview. Ditto. Most excellent
She’s getting more and more pissed off about what is going on, all the coverups, all the corruption.
Amazing, simply amazing!
I’m glad Russian troops are getting killed in Ukraine.
Yes...very believable. The Russkies are proving themselves to be extremely incompetent. I saw videos of one Russian bivouac area, and it was a pigsty. Very apparent that the Russian military is very lacking in competent NCO's. I
Amazing! First, the Ghost Pilot, then the Slammin’ Grammies, then the IMiss Universe Brigade, now the Ukie Teen Titans with drones.
Will wonders never cease?
I’m sure Putin will surrender tomorrow.
How many Russian Generals did this kid personally kill?
But the Russians actually have lost those 10 (or is it 12?) generals. That all is news-news. Its also propaganda. Welcome to reality, where both can be the case, as truth is the best propaganda.
The neatest trick in info war is to emphasize facts that serve your cause and hurt your enemies. Most of what the MSM does is in this category. Alternate media does the same in the opposite direction.
Ukraine is entitled to provide “managed news”, that is, propaganda. Its a legitimate weapon of war. The Russians are likewise entitled to do the same (allowing for the fact that they are serving an evil cause).
The Russians have done a poor job of it so far, especially in selling their case for the war in the first place. Add to that much poorer quality of released video and lack of narrative, which the Ukrainians have mastered. They have a long way to go to match Uke abilities here.
They will probably never be able to overcome their “strategic” handicaps in re propaganda, as the WWII Germans never could, because the real-life context of the propaganda war could not be overcome. The moral high ground is a real thing, and the Ukrainians have it. They are the underdogs, they have millions of perfectly decent and attractive refugees all over Europe (in comparison the “Syrians” proved to be a hinky lot of barbarians). Russia cant challenge that even if it improves its technical quality.
You forgot the farmers dragging away Russian vehicles with their tractors.
Also the little blonde children fleeing Russian bombardments.
Some of these things were actually true.
You dont like the Uke propaganda because you support Russia, for what reason I cant explain. But all this is inevitable and legitimate in wars, and for we foreign spectators it behooves us to see this with some equanimity.
Bull. In a hurricane of propaganda, nobody should believe anything.
That would be contrary to the Geneva convention. Civilians are entitled to resist foreign invaders. This was implemented early on in the whole development of these treaties, from the Hague convention onward.
The reason was the behavior of the German armies towards the French irregulars, the “francs tireurs”, during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870. The German position was that these were illegal combatants, not being regular soldiers, and thus, if captured, subject to drumhead justice, usually summary execution. France said “no fair!”, and so forced the issue.
And so it is to this day - such treatment of civilian combatants is a war crime.
Much of propaganda isnt lies at all, but “selected” truth.
Not the complete truth, but just that which helps the cause.
In this it is not at all different from, say, domestic political controversies.
The proper approach, for someone who wants to extract the truth from a blizzard of questionable information, is to concentrate on facts, that can be verified. Both sides release facts, often concerning the same point at issue. Concentrate on these and apply plausibility tests. Conclusions will follow.
This all is akin to what an “open source” intelligence analyst does. We in the global public are called on to be such “open source” analysts.
Biggest Uke corksucker site on the web.
Baghdad Bob has found new employment in Kiev. Doing good work, until reality catches up to them. In the last months of WW II every German News Broadcast started with the words “Another Victory for the Fatherland!” When victories were not on hand they made them up. Until the end. Only a NATO intervention can give Ukraine any hope of Victory. In the Civil War the South hoped for French Intervention to save them—it never came and they were at last beaten.
