To be fair, the headline of this piece is misleading.
McConaughey doesn’t endorse “gun control as ‘acceptable sacrifice.’”
He specifically says, “A waiting period to purchase an assault rifle is an acceptable sacrifice for responsible gun owners when it can prevent a mass shooting crime of passion or suicide.”
That’s a good conversation starter.
As I’ve mentioned, I don’t like his use of the vague term “assault rifle.” But maybe waiting periods for certain guns could be a good thing. Maybe. Let’s talk about it, rather than just dismiss it outright.
These people have dealt in bad faith for so long it takes a special kind of stupid to take anything they say seriously.
There are laws upon laws upon laws against this sort of thing, all of them selectively enforced only against those least likely to commit such crimes. And there were at least three or four layers of institutional failure here and in every other such case.
In the end you are simply giving up freedom and gaining nothing. Again. And again. Which makes you that special kind of stupid.
I’m willing to listen to reasonable arguments. Can we please start with why current gun laws on the books are not being enforced? Can we ask why Hunter Biden, a crack cocaine abuser, is not sitting in jail? Can we ask why the FBI had knowledge and familiarity with so many of these shooters yet no positive action was ever taken? Can we ask why its not OK to have armed guards walking school halls protecting lives? Can we have reasonable talks about why democrat cities with the toughest gun laws are the worst offenders especially Chicago? Can we question why the Govt continues to try and unarmed its law abiding populace? Can we talk about the confiscation of one fire arm will lead to abolishment in steps of our rights and freedoms? Can we talk about the logic which states if you take guns from the lawful only the criminal will have weapons? And it goes on and on .
