Gingrich: Biden the ‘Second-Worst President in American History’
Breitbart ^ | 06/07/2022 | Jeff poor

Posted on 06/07/2022 7:26:34 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called President Joe Biden the “second-worst” in the country’s history.

According to Gingrich, Biden is second to former President James Buchanan, who he blamed for getting the country into the Civil War.

“I think it’s important to remember, first of all, to be fair, Jimmy Carter was a disaster,” he said. “But he was a lot smarter and a lot more coherent than Joe Biden. Well, Carter, in the end, couldn’t solve the problems. He at least was there. You could imagine him as a naval academy graduate and a nuclear engineer from the submarine program. He was – he had a kind of competence even if he was incompetent. Biden has neither.”

So you must think that war was forced on King George 90 years earlier. George could either cave to the colonials and see his empire fall apart or else take a stand etc.

Gingrich was arguably the worst Speaker of the House ever.

George III had more wiggle room. It was over a year between the first fighting and the Declaration of Independence. Plenty of time to work out a compromise. The Confederates chose to secede, form a country, start a war, and threaten to pull off more states and territories in a matter of months. As I said, Buchanan’s inactions and bad actions wasted time when the crisis might possibly have been defused, and he did nothing to bring the country together during his term, other than cave to all the slaveowners’ demands.

Johnson stated at the time he would have those (the N word) voting democrat for the rest of time!!!

Yes he did, so we agree on Johnson's motives, but why did this suddenly become important?

24th amendment. It created new voters out of people who weren't able to vote because they didn't pay taxes.

Removing the tax requirement for voting made it feasible to bribe non tax paying voters with government money.

Learn the lesson. Don’t vote for anybody whose message is that they are decent or compassionate. Those qualities ought to be assumed in prospective presidents, and anybody who goes around the country talking about how honest or righteous or bighearted he is probably isn’t any of those things. Carter was too directionless and detail-obsessed to be any good, however honest and decent he boasted about being.

+1.

Lincoln could either cave into the secessionists and let the country fall apart...

Or hold it together by force and brutality like the Soviet Union.

other than cave to all the slaveowners’ demands.

What were their demands? To leave them alone? Oh my God! How dastardly!

You’re ignoring the fact that the Confederates formed a peace commission in February 1861 that attempted to meet with Seward or Lincoln and both refused to meet with them. Lincoln wasn’t interested in avoiding a war, which he believed would be over in mere months.

Lincoln intended to treat the breakaway states as nothing other than criminals and to use an army against them. He says so in his April 15th 1861 message to Congress. He expressly states that he is “employing war-power” against these states in his July 4 1861 special message to Congress. At that point he had been doing all of this on his own, Congress had been out of session.

Lincoln’s reasoning was identical to that of King George in his 1775 letter to Parliament calling for force to suppress the American rebellion. The only difference is King George’s stilted and archaic literary style.

“That being said and I take it as fact it is also a fact that darned near ZERO wealthy family’s children in my town went to NAM.”

2-S draft deferments made that possible. The exemption of college students, which overwhelmingly benefited the privileged.

The rush for student exemptions to avoid the Vietnam draft is one of the reasons that “college for everyone” got started. The 1971 Griggs vs Duke Power scotus decision is probably an even bigger factor but one unrelated to the draft.

... Prior to 1963, you couldn't vote unless you paid taxes.

That might have been true in some states, but I, who had never paid taxes, was off at school at MIT and therefore voted absentee in 1960. My southern home state had abolished poll taxes in the 1930s.

"Landside Lyndon" had his own bad history with elections.

Except studies show that it wasn’t a war of the poor, so it evidently made little difference, and college was available for everyone, including the poor like me and my brothers.

They wanted all the slave states and were agitating to get them. That would have left Washington DC surrounded or in Confederate hands. No president was going to let that happen.

The rebels started the war on April 12th. After that we were indeed at war. Prior to that, Lincoln wanted to hold on to a fort or two to maintain the idea that the Union was undivided and stop the secessionist tide. Any American president who didn’t simply want to let the country fall apart would have done something like that. It didn’t mean having a war or treating anyone as criminals.

Let me be clear. The 24th amendment was sold as a anti-racist "poll tax" amendment, but the last three words eliminated the requirement to pay any taxes at all.

This created a positive feedback loop whereby the people who feel no pain from taxation are able to force those who pay taxes to transfer money to them through the government.

It is financial insanity.

And it was the Liberal Republicans who pushed this amendment. Johnson merely took advantage of the obvious opportunity Liberal Republicans created.
