Trump endorses McCarthy as ‘strong and fearless’ House GOP leader

Former President Trump endorsed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Saturday, calling him “strong and fearless.”

In a post on social media site Truth Social, Trump said McCarthy is an “outstanding representative for the people of California.”

“In Congress, Kevin is a tireless advocate for the people of Bakersfield and the Central Valley. He is working incredibly hard to Stop Inflation, Deliver Water Solutions, and Hold Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi Accountable for their catastrophic failures and dereliction of duty,” Trump wrote. “Kevin McCarthy has my Complete and Total Endorsement.”

“Maybe they made a deal.”

Translation: To contain the Jan 6 investigation farce, Trump is (unilaterally?) associating himself with a key player. “Strong and fearless” is Trump’s aspiration for McCarthy’s in that context. For the moment T is acting on the premise that enemies are best, but allies can be useful.

This is kind of putting Kevin on the spot. Either produce some effective stewardship of the post within the Republican party, or be the object of some really scathing criticism if there is failure to deliver by the summer of 2024.

I considered that, too, not voting due to the unfettered obvious Fraud that is now guaranteed by Dominion here in Michigulag. I reconsidered and will register my protest and vote in the Primary for anyone who is on record supporting the Constitution, limited Govt., Pro-God-given right to self-protection in all things especially Health. If you do your homework, the field narrows down significantly. If all else fails, I will do a write-in for None of the Above. If all my choices are Lessers of Actual Evil, I will NOT vote for any of them especially if Mr. OPERATION WARP SPEED thinks I should.

"Why endorse anyone for a safe seat like this?"

Well either Trump is playing 6D chess or his own sense of self importance demands a daily dose of media attention.

I think most people had a good chuckle or eye roll when they read Trump’s supportive statement on McCarthy.

I get why he’s doing it. At present, there is no one else ready to do that job, who will also be receptive to occassional suggestions from The Donald.

McCarthy is McConnell is Pelosi. I will vote for DeSantis if given a choice. My enthusiasm is dimmed for Trump. A Mohamaden faux doctor who supports mutilation of children, and now McCarthy.

Face it, Trump is not going to make the changes we need. It is time for a devolution.

We need to get on our knees and pray to God in Heaven to heal our land. It is the only way.

It’s strategy. If you fight every front in a war, you lose. You choose your targets selectively. President Trump knows how to win.

Hmmm...

Being that it’s been more that 2-years (since April/May 2020) of monthly automatic debits DJT has been taking from my bank account, I would be offended it any of this money was used to support a fellow-traveler like Kevin McCarthy...

Actually, as an Atilla-the-Hun centrist, even Joe McCarthy was too far left for me...

Hopefully he’s somehow got Kevin by the short hairs or Kev will no doubt stab him in the back at some point in the future ala Ryan, Cheney, Romney, & numerous other RINOS.

These sorts of endorsements (Oz etc) are very off putting - hard to overlook.

"So you just admit defeat to give them the easy win? Can you say LOSER!"

I'd rather be a loser, than be a hypocrite, and continue to vote for a party that doesn't respect me enough to even want to try to eliminate voter fraud. Republicans had 20 years after the 2000 election, when Gore tried to steal the election from Bush, but they've sat on their hands all that time, and never even considered working on election reform. I will never compromise my values again, and hold my nose to vote for a Republican candidate that is the lesser of two evils, because when it's all over, you're still stuck with evil. The reason we have assholes like McCarthy, and the rest of the fecking rinos in Congress, is because ignorant people have no problem being repeatedly taken for granted by the GOP, and will continue to vote these self-serving bastards back into office, simply because they feel they have to vote for someone, even if that someone is an asshole that continues to disappoint them.

I loved my grandma even after she got dementia really bad and kept stealing and hiding my kid’s toys saying they were hers. I loved her as much as ever, but realized she was no longer herself and of course didn’t take anything she said to be reliable information. Terribly sad and heartbreaking, but even heroes fall.

I’m there with President Trump at this point. McCarthy is a swamp rat POS and there was no need to endorse him.

"We need to get on our knees and pray to God in Heaven to heal our land. It is the only way."

I've been doing that every day since the Clintons were in The White House, and look where it's gotten us. I will no longer be praying for this country to be saved, because it's too far gone already, and at almost 75, I will never get the time back that I've wasted praying for a miracle. I will pray for my two sons, and that's it.

“You have made a decision to cop out

It’s pure laziness“

Yep.
Local races are the most important anyway.
School board, city council, etc

Get involved, go volunteer on local election board .
You are needed .
Don’t let them win

I think you answered your own question: Anyone in President Trump’s position - wishing to establish himself as “kingmaker” of the Republican party, is wise to endorse likely winners wherever possible.

He figures McCarthy is going to win anyway, so why not have that win improve his own win/loss record.

It’s a bit cynical, I know, but there’s no denying that pundits are keeping a running scorecard of whether his endorsement prevail - and that scorecard is impressive. Having his endorsements win makes him appear powerful. Come 2024, the Republican Party is going to want to nominate someone with coattails, and Trump is cornering that market.
