Good point. McCarthy has no serious challenger - so this is likely more to do with ensuring that McCarthy toes the line on Jan. 6th during the hearings. Although McCarthy was initially more in line with McConnell, he came back into the fold quickly.

I think it's cute in a quaint sort of way that some people still think Congressional leadership has something to do with political philosophy, rather than who has been picked to funnel the big money to all the marginal seats and let them keep their jobs for which they are, in general, so woefully ill-equipped.

Please. He didn’t give up anything. And he’s out there all the time having thousands of people cheer for him, that ain’t ruined. Oh brother yourself. 40+ years Trump has been one of the most famous people in this country. You don’t do that on accident, it’s on purpose, and he’s doing the same things now he did in the 80s. This is the life he’s chosen, and he loves second of it.

He isn’t going to run a shadow government of an opposition party. That has never worked in American History (ask the Bull Moose insurrectionists).

“He could just not endorse.” Yes. But McCarthy would take that as a slight and would repay. I don’t think this is just the smart thing politically, I think it is the only thing in an off year unless you wanted to shatter the whole party and blow the reelection win.

2016? YOU, Erik Latranyi have to remember this was Trump's FIRST POLITICAL job. He didn't spend 40 years making political "connections" like Biden did.

Trump's amazing but it takes a few weeks (at least) to learn the ropes of being President of the United States...

Biden's been a DC politician for 37 years... and he's made "a few" mistakes too. (like massive inflation, crazy open borders, food shortages, sky high gas prices, war and rumors of new wars)...

so yeah, Trump supported Paul Ryan in his first few weeks of being on the job. You've lost track of perspective here Erik.

I don’t like it either but McCarthy is in CA. His re-elect is a lock or it goes to a rat. That is the reality. What really sucks is I don’t see anyone else becoming speaker.
