A Robb Elementary School employee did not leave a door open to the building before last week's deadly school shooting in Uvalde, her lawyer said, refuting authorities' previous claims as the department faces backlash for its changing story around the massacre.
Attorney Don Flanary told San Antonio Express-News reporter Guillermo Contreras on Tuesday that the unidentifiable employee did prop open a door to the school, but shut it when she saw the gunman, who eventually entered and massacred 19 children and two adults on May 24.
Flanary told the Express-News that the employee remembers kicking away the rock used to prop open the door and pulling it shut as she spoke to police about the gunman shooting outside the school.
"She remembers pulling the door closed while telling 911 that he was shooting," he told the newspaper. "She thought the door would lock because that door is always supposed to be locked."
Director of Texas Department of Public Safety Steven McCraw alleged on Friday that security footage shows the back door of the school was propped open before the shooting, and the gunman used it to enter the school before barricading himself in a classroom.
McCraw described the person who propped open the door as a teacher, who he said called police at 11:30 a.m. that morning after the gunman crashed his vehicle in a nearby ditch and shot at passersby.
Three minutes later, McCraw said the gunman entered the school through the door.
Texas Department of Public Safety didn't immediately provide a response to the teacher's claims.
Since last week's mass shooting in Uvalde — the country's deadliest at an elementary school since Sandy Hook in 2012 — law enforcement officials have made crucial changes to the attack's timeline at least a dozen times.
Enraged parents have questioned why it took over an hour for officers inside the school to confront the gunman; the latest explanation from Texas DPS pointed the finger at the school's police chief who was leading the response, who McCraw alleged refused to send police in because he thought no children were in danger.
Her lawyer is a good source!
“that door is always supposed to be locked.”
Texas needs to get their checkbook ready 🤪
how did the murderer get in?
how did the police get in?
I thought they had this on video...
Guess there’s surveillance video to show what happened with door?
Isn’t every doorway monitored by a camera?
We’re supposed to believe the client who probably violated rules propping the door open that... Whoops!.... The latch must have failed! Sure. How does a teacher diving for cover know that the rock was completely out of the way of the closing door?
And if this teacher did call 911 to report the shooting, his/her name & voice are on tape and the Media will release it.
There were two men dressed in black (police?) watching the shooter enter that door.
How’d the shooter know it’d be open?
His ‘big plan’ was to just randomly run to doors and he hit the door lotto and got the one that was open?
Who left it open?
Why?
Who benefits politically from this event?
What group or Constitutional rights ‘lose’ from this event?
Was this the American Fast and Furious setup gun grab?
....even IF the teacher employed a rock to hold the door open, and even IF it was caught on crystal clear video of her doing so, and even IF the shooter gained entrance because of the rock holding the door open she would, as the Sussmann verdict reminds us, get off scot free.
Lack of accountability from A to Z in American Society is causing lots of problems!
Perhaps the teacher is the patsy?
Earlier reports said the teacher that propped it open was killed.
Early reports said the shooter was ‘engaged’ by officers before he entered... then they said he wasn’t.
What are those two men in black standing about 100 feet from the perp and the door doing?
Personal liability and the chance for ostracization by the community of this teacher is enough motivation to lie that I don’t take the teacher’s word on this and if I was the lawyer for the teacher, I would not be talking at all to the media.
At this point, nobody is guilty of opening or keeping the door open.
Nobody knows, even if they do know. And the lawyers will defend those who knew and now don’t know.
Pause on the first second of this video.
Who are those two guys to the left of the frame?
Why are they letting a guy carrying a long rifle masked up in all black enter a school?
How - of all places - did the shooter know to go to that specific door?

Closed? But did the lock engage?
The shooter did not materialize in the building. He got in from somewhere.
“But for the lack of a nail….”
The lawyer of an “unidentifiable employee”?
Another part of the puzzle that continues to change.
So if the teacher shut the door why didn’t it lock as it was supposed to?
Who unlocked the door?
And if video footage shows the shooter entered through an open door the teacher is lying to cover her butt.
This should be easy to prove if they do actually have video.
Why does the story keep changing?
The door didn’t lock, and he walked in. The teacher only thought the door would lock. If the door has some sort of locking device on it, then she should’ve double-checked, but she may not have had time. Someone propped open the door with a rock, though.
There is video, so if DPS says it was propped open, it is because they saw it propped open on the video. The teacher who propped it open is consciously, or unconsciously, creating the belief in her own head that she closed it as a coping mechanism to deal with the horror she contributed to.
The same “people” that brought us a fraud in the WH had plenty to do with this imo.
