~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Bragg, North Carolina

NCfortbragg1

Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is a military installation of the United States Army in North Carolina, and is one of the largest military installations in the world, with around 54,000 military personnel. It is located within Cumberland, Hoke, Harnett, and Moore counties and borders the towns of Fayetteville, Spring Lake, and Southern Pines.

It is named for native North Carolinian Confederate General Braxton Bragg, who had previously served in the United States Army in the Mexican-American War. Fort Bragg is one of ten United States Army installations named for officers who led military units of the Confederacy in the American Civil War.

Fort Bragg covers over 251 square miles. It is the home of the Army's XVIII Airborne Corps and is the headquarters of the United States Army Special Operations Command, which oversees the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) and 75th Ranger Regiment. It is also home to the U.S. Army Forces Command, U.S. Army Reserve Command, and Womack Army Medical Center.

Fort Bragg maintains two airfields: Pope Field, where the United States Air Force stations global airlift and special operations assets as well as the Air Force Combat Control School, and Simmons Army Airfield, where Army aviation units support the needs of airborne and special operations forces on post.

XVIII Airborne Corps rapidly deploys ready Army forces anywhere in the world by air, land or sea, entering forcibly if necessary, to shape, deter, fight and win. The Corps headquarters provides mission command as an Army, Joint or Combined Task Force headquarters.

The XVIII Airborne Corps is “America’s Contingency Corps” and Fort Bragg is the home of the Army’s Airborne and Special Operations Forces.

The 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) is a division-level special operations forces command within the United States Army Special Operations Command. The command was first established in 1989 and reorganized in 2014 grouping together the Army Special Forces, psychological operations, civil affairs, and support troops into a single organization operating out of its headquarters at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The mission of 1SFC (A) is to organize, equip, train, and validate forces to conduct full-spectrum special operations in support of United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Geographic Combatant Commanders, American ambassadors, and other governmental agencies.

The new command includes all seven Special Forces groups (including the five active duty and two Army National Guard groups), two Psychological Operations groups, a civil affairs brigade, and a sustainment brigade. The Command has the ability to rapidly deploy a high-level headquarters to run sustained, unconventional campaigns in foreign theaters.

I’d say you’re right but putting that kind of fabric collar that could be shredded was dangerous. It could have snagged on things and she’d have been in trouble. Putting it on so tightly wasn’t smart either. At least she was willing to stand still so you could cut it off, and she had to be grateful to be rid of it.

I was just shutting down open tabs when I came across this bit of news. Now, I knew that what we all saw was just spectacular, but I had nothing to compare it to, I didn’t know the following:

“The 1966 Leonids were certainly the greatest meteor shower in recorded history as it produced rates as high as 40 meteors per SECOND! We celebrate this year the 50th anniversary of this unforgettable event. The Leonids are associated with the comet Tempel–Tuttle .Nov 17, 2016”

I’m off to my bed of native earth in my crypt in my dungeon, right near the sauna and hot tub.

Sleep Well.

They sure were really something! That wasn’t at all what I expected as I was reading your comment. LOL

They must have had a hard time keeping a straight face, watching y’all do as they said while in a bit of a stupor, knowing there were a lot of “WTHs??” going through everyone’s minds. :-)

It sounds like your time there was quite positive and rewarding, and that you had some fantastic mentors.

I believe they probably put it on her when she was a kitten and then she left them or they abandoned her and no one took it off. I was there, thank goodness.

Guess I’d better finish this show and get some sleep. I didn’t get much last night. I just couldn’t get comfy. It was either too hot, or if I turned the AC down a notch, it was too cold.

See ya tomorrow! Hope you have more pretty weather tomorrow!

Yeah, I read that when I checked out the link you’d posted. That was really a once-in-a-lifetime event you got to witness. I didn’t get to see it. Maybe it was cloudy here that night so Dad didn’t bother waking me up for it. We’d usually get out to watch “sky shows”.

Sleep well in your bed of native earth in your crypt in your dungeon, right near the sauna and hot tub. LOL

I’ll be heading off to my bat cave in a bit, before the sun rises. :-)

That was probably the case. It’s a good thing Ghost took her to you so you could cut it off. It must have been very uncomfortable and that’s why she was trying to scratch it off. It just wouldn’t tear.

I hope you sleep better tonight. You need to find that happy medium with the AC. :-)

I wish we’d have cloudy skies pouring rain tomorrow, to be honest. We need it bad right now.

We did but Gizmo just couldn't help himself. He heard and just decided he had to run to it and I ended up chasing him through the campground all the way to the bathroom. We did enjoy our visit to the lake yesterday.

We just had a t-storm pass through. Some rain, lightning and thunder but that was it.

That Gizmo can be a real rascal. LOL Glad you two had a good time out there even though you had to chase him down.

Lucky you, getting some rain. That little system is supposed to come through parts of TN later today but not our part. :-( We could use a little rain.

Have fun later today. With luck, Gizmo won’t pull another stunt. :-)
