Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address released Sunday that Russian troops are at a “dead end” and “victory is beginning” for his nation.

“The 81st day of our defense is coming to an end and another week of round-the-clock work for Ukraine and victory is beginning,” said at the opening of his remarks.

I hear you.

Still, I don’t think the Russians will use nuclear weapons.

I think that would only happen if sovereign Russia territory was invaded and the invaders were winning overwhelmingly.

Given that, I’m not sure their nuclear forces are at top operational condition. As a retired member of the USAF who spent 7 years in SAC, I remember how often and in-depth maintenance of our nuclear weapons were. The radioactivity of the temporally unstable nuclear materials can quicky degrade electrical components. They have to be swapped out frequently. That costs us a ton of $$$. Have the Russians traditionally done such maintenance? Or were any funds intended for that endeavor diverted “elsewhere”?

I’m sure they could find some freshly made or maintained tactical nuclear weapons to use on Ukraine but what will be the rest of the world’s reaction? Are they going to risk Moscow, et al, in a nuclear war over the Ukraine? Some level-headed Russian officers may well be thinking about THAT. They might worry about the ability of their global nuclear weapons to work if the West retaliates.

Will they? Who knows? But is the risk of first use by the Russians, then escalating, be a risk they cannot accept, even for the Donbas or Crimea?

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2022/05/if-ukraine-is-winning-why-is-the-us-requesting-a-ceasefire.html#more

The Ukraine is losing up to 15,000 men per month to the war. The total Ukrainian casualties, dead and wounded, are likely already at 50,000. The weapons the U.S. and others provide, are not sufficient to sustain the war. The Ukraine has only 3 days reserves of diesel and gasoline left. The main parts of its forces are immobile and are getting surrounded by Russian forces. Their situation is hopeless.

https://thedreizinreport.com/2022/05/15/russia-helps-the-ukraine-meet-its-emissions-reduction-targets/

Although barely any U.S. or European media mentioned this at all, the past week saw the destruction of the Kremenchug oil refinery, which the Associated Press—citing a Ukrainian official—conveyed was “not operational anyway”…..

…..So, no big deal! Right?

The oil tanks at Kremenchug had been damaged previously, but the facility—as one of the Ukraine’s only three functioning refineries at the start of the war, and one of only two large ones—has just lost its production section thanks to at least six Russian cruise missiles.

This size of refinery would take years and hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild.

Regional authorities say the gas will run out completely in a few days.

With the Lisichansk refinery also destroyed, and the Odessa refinery’s fuel tanks all well blown…..

…..the one avenue now for supplying the Ukraine (and its army) with ready fuel, is via tanker trains coming from Moldova.

As I’ve written before, these trains are loaded at the port of Giurgiulești, then moved over Soviet-gauge Moldovan track into the Ukraine.

Poland and Slovakia don’t use the same track, so sourcing from that direction is not an option, unless you want to transfer the fuel to a new train at the border—ridiculously time-consuming.

Russia has hit and possibly disabled one of two Odessa-region bridges used by these fuel trains.

In short, the “fuel line” into the Ukraine, is hanging on a thread, and fully at Russia’s mercy.

Send more Javelins!

It would be the end of Russia if they were to use nukes on anyone. The world would respond quickly and the government of Russia would disappear.

I do not believe anyone, or very few, in Russia would obey the order. They know it would be suicide.

What I find amazing is just how pitifully weak Russia is militarily. Yes they have nukes but do not have any leadership, except for those that would get a battalion stuck on a 40 mile road with no exit.

"So that means you don't need the 40 billion now right??" 🙄

I clicked to make that statement and was pleased to see it was the first post.

Where is Zelensky located?
The US politicians know where as they visit him so you figure the Russians do to. So why are they not bombing the site?
