Typical Russian reaction. Its that psychology again.
They could have stressed ongoing friendly relations and made such official and unofficial gestures as might allay fears. Maybe mitigate some of the willingness to, say, actually let Nato forces base themselves on Swedish/Finnish territory. Or make future attitudes pro Nato less intense.
But no. Double down, with nukes no less.
Exactly. “Good enough for me but not for thee” describes the sense of geopolitical entitlement Russia has had for centuries. It’s about time
They grow up and realize the rest of Europe doesn’t want to be led by Russia.
Amen! Incredibly inventive album from the most consistently innovative band of all time.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a faction of conservatives that considers Russia/China to be more the “good guys” than we are.
NATO playing paper tiger? Color me surprised at the hubris of our modern day Don Quixotes
Why aew we expanding NATO when it is obsolete?
Why wouldn’t Putin be paranoid. Democrats have been poking the Russian bear threatening war since Obama was President.
“ Why are we expanding NATO when it is obsolete?”
NATO isn’t obsolete. NATO is why countries bordering Russia still exist as sovereign countries. Ukraine is paying the price of not being in NATO.
Liberate Kaliningrad
It does NOT belong to Russia
They stole it
Uh, no. Obama was the great appeaser of Putin's invasions in Crimea and Donbas.
"Won't arm Ukraine until peace process finishes," Obama says

President Barack Obama was caught on camera on Monday assuring outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he will have “more flexibility” to deal with contentious issues like missile defense after the U.S. presidential election.

lol.
Uh, no. Albania has about the same level of corruption as Ukraine, and is a NATO member.
Correct. It is the EU where the corruption issue really comes to play. However, the EU thinks Ukraine is making progress on the worst of the excesses, which, BTW, generally DON”T involve the US, despite some (most?) Americans thinking that somehow everything significant revolves around us.
Finland and Sweden are well enough armed (and increasing after 2/24) to not need new “NATO Bases” on their soil. What might make sense though is logistics infrastructure*, capacity to throw up housing and such rapidly if needed, more cargo planes, and so on.
*Was the US building the Interstate Highway System a “provocative move” toward the Warsaw Pact?
For clarity “2/24” in my last post is Feb. 24, 2022.
“Finland and Sweden are well enough armed (and increasing after 2/24) to not need new “NATO Bases” on their soil. What might make sense though is logistics infrastructure*, capacity to throw up housing and such rapidly if needed, more cargo planes, and so on.”
The real effect of Finland and Sweden joining NATO is close integration into the alliance. Right now both countries cooperate but are treated as outsiders. By joining the alliance their militaries will be capable of deep integration which means NATO forces can immediately cooperate with Swedish and Finnish forces on the battlefield.
>>> *Was the US building the Interstate Highway System a “provocative move” toward the Warsaw Pact? <<<
Perhaps. The Interstates were not originally designed with it in mind but they are now an integral part of the triad of deterrence because mobile ICBM launchers can be readily dispersed on these highways. With one in ever five miles of Interstate being constructed to handle cargo aircraft the mobile launchers can also be quickly resupplied as they go.
Russia’s mobile launch systems are not nearly as mobile as ours and are limited by the quality of roads and frequently constrained to rail lines.
neither one could! the warsaw pact was the legalization of the stalinizing “the buffer states” that comprised the Soviet Union.
did you not read that in your school history book?
also, cuba was still a bigger thing, then, so if mexico moved, it wouuld have been with cuba.
canada, with daddy trudeau, and since, has remained theessed up kid in the divorce from british rule to a parliamentary democracy, and has stayed messed up. those of the First Nations have always been canada’s blacks.
