Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kathy Barnette was not always in favor of now former President Donald Trump.
In a series of tweets and other comments during the 2016 GOP presidential primary, Barnette — who was a fan of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) — repeatedly ripped into Trump.
After a debate in September 2015, for instance, Barnette said Trump “was horrid.”
She also said in another September 26, 2015, tweet that Trump would be “good 4 beers & barbecue.”
“BUT, not as President,” Barnette said of Trump, adding that “WE r so morally bankrupt” for even considering Trump.
Barnette also that day, while Barack Obama was still the president, called Trump “JUST AS LIBERAL” as the “leaders we currently [have in] office.”
She also said in another tweet that while she likes Trump, “he’s nothing more than HEADLINES” and with Trump there is “very little substance.”
She said too that Trump’s “moral character is questionable” and that he is “braggadocious.”
When Dr. Ben Carson endorsed Trump in March 2016, Barnette tweeted that “there is a real disconnect, for me” in Carson endorsing Trump over Cruz.
As of the publication of this article, Barnette still has all these tweets published on her Twitter feed.
In her book, published in February 2020, Barnette even says Trump was last on her list of choices in the 2016 GOP primary — meaning that she liked former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich more.

J.D. Vance
Bitch.
Ah, but, but... /s
Another hit piece, Vance said the same things in 16. I smell a rat and McConnell
She was right. Trump has the morals of a alley cat and skin thinner than a condom
Okay, I have not and will not buy her book (from 2020), but have seen nothing about her current thoughts on Trump, if anything has changed, beyond the expediency of the election.
She’s the most conservative candidate in the race. All these attacks from the usual suspects prove it. Neither Oz nor McCormick can be trusted.
We know better than Trump, right? Wrong! The republican party is in the sorry state that it is in today precisely because we don’t know, because we trusted what candidates said.
And I will vote for her.
Not so fast. That’s pretty much the same way I thought of Trump in 2015. I honestly thought he would be the ultimate RINO and he would appoint pro-Roe judges. Look back at FR at that time; there were plenty of anti-Trump postings (mostly questioning whether he was just playing us conservatives) and then when he won the nomination Jim closed off the debate and we all got around him. For me the defining moment was when he released his proposed list of judicial nominees. Then I knew he was the real thing.
Exactly.
And in spite of that, he turned out to be a good president.
I was ALL IN for Kathy, however she just received HUGE money from Club for Growth that is a HUGE so called conservative, globalist organization, I am now wondering what the hell deal she cut with them!! Trump is having HUGE battles with the club for growth, they are FULL ON Bushie republicans!! I smell McConnell behind this money dump for Kathy if so she will OWE the Bushie republicans if she gets to DC!!!
Pretty much what a lot of us thought of Trump at that time. People were looking for a more proven conservative. Well, Trump stepped up and turned out to be a god president. But at the time, there were reasons to doubt him.
I said the same thing in ‘16. Changed my mind since.
Sounds like she was as anti-Trump as Rush and Levin as well as 3/4 of the GOP. Now the same people are outraged. Go Kathy!
I wasn’t going to agree with you, but then you used those all caps and exclamation points, and now I am in complete agreement...
I think any sensible person in 2016 would have doubted Trump. His social circle was amongst the globalists.
I doubted him and am happy to say that I couldn’t be more happy about being wrong.
The Club for Growth is free market, more to the libertarian side of Trump. They are not Bushies.
