The Number of Officers Who Have Left Chicago's Police Force Is Staggering
Townhall ^ | 05 11 2022 | Julio Rosas

The Chicago Police Department is preparing for a surge in violence over the Memorial Day weekend by canceling all upcoming days off for its officers as they are continuing to face a severe manpower shortage.

ABC 7 Chicago reports an internal memo sent to officers states all days off are to be canceled for one full week between May 24 and 31 along with the possibility of being put on 12-hour work shifts during that time "if operational needs arises." It is expected that downtown retail corridors will get special attention during the holiday weekend.

To make matters worse, 900 officers left CPD while only 51 joined between January and October 2021. This is a stark contrast to 2019, where 619 officers left the force and 444 joined the department. It started to get worse in 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic and BLM riots, where CPD saw 705 officers leave and 161 join.

Any weekend in Chicago when the temps are north of about 80 degrees fahrenheit is going to be a tough weekend.

Some of those officers leaving haven’t been on too long, it’s not just the guys with 20 or more years on the job that are leaving. Many younger officers are getting out of Dodge to go work for other police departments in cities with a more stable political climate (less crime, no Democrats). I’ve heard of two who just walked into the commanders office and threw their star and hat shield on his desk and told him they quit.
There was a time when 20-30 thousand people would take the test to get on CPD, now they are lucky to get a few thousand, and the quality of some those who make it has really taken a dive.

Chicago fouls up it’s PD on purpose. Cops leave in droves. Dimrat mayor asks for federal help. Feds move in and take over the policing of the city and start rounding up anyone who runs afoul of the ministry of truth.

Boy, I sure hope nobody has Covid and passes it to other officers. That would be a shame😁

The stupid police just get in the way of crime and prevent people from violating other peoples rights and safety

Chicago is but one example. Who would want to join a large metropolitan police force when you have no political backing from the mayor and city leadership, and no legal backing from the Soros-sponsored district attorney? And further, God help you if you happen to shoot or otherwise injure a black person, because by default you will be in the wrong.

I’d wager they had to really lower standards to attract those 51, too.

Probably did. Which is anther problem....

Send in the Mexicans to police Chicago. When Mayor Groot sent in her BLM thugs to loot Mexican neighborhoods and businesses on May, 2020, armed Mexicans chased the racists back into their ghettos. Mayor Groot called the Mexicans racists. The Mexican alderman representing the district told Groot to go F’ herself.

Our son is a 9 year veteran of CFD, criminology from Marquette and former Army Ranger and he is leaving in June. Wants out of local law enforcement altogether since no one has your back and state qualified immunity is likely gone. Chicago is screwed and it is only going to get uglier, uglier even than Beetlejuice.

Here’s the plan: Get rid of the rest of the Chicongo PD and then bring back Constitutional Carry. Let the citizens deal with the criminals and then not have to deal with the damned police afterwards.

Crime will vanish within the month and Chicago will be a safe place to visit or to live.

Yeah, trigger happy, easy to rile, low patience, shoot first and ask questions later. That type.

Sorry to hear that about your son. I hope he is able to find a new rewarding career. It’s such a shame to have him dump all that experience.

” only 51 joined between January and October 2021”

Imagine how bad the cops that actually joined the PD. No one in their right mind would be a cop in this environment.
