Its a matter of logistics. Now that the Russian Navy is being effectively harassed in southeastern Ukraine, they cannot land the fuel, ammunition and troops necessary to sustain an effective operation.
” that the country’s military cannot compete with Ukraine’s equipment from NATO.”
One area this has been highlighted is artillery. The howitzers we are sending to Ukraine are accurate to 18 miles. The Russian ones to only 13.
It’s a nightmare for the Russian troops if they have to advance 5 miles under fire before they can even begin to counter.
As I've posted NUMEROUS times before, Russia's "vaunted" military is a joke.
Were it not for nukes (which at this point I doubt are functional enough to leave their silo's before exploding on their own) Russia would be nothing more than the equivalent of the Iraqi Republican Guard head to head against the United States and/or NATO.
Russia's military is near third-world status. We've been afraid of them for years, exactly why?! Oh. Nukes. Which probably don't work right either at this point. When this is over, Russia will be nothing more than China's gas station, and Xi is salivating at that fact.
Said it before, and I'll likely say the above again many more times until Russia's defeat in Ukraine is finally acknowledged by Putin. (Or Putin dies from his cancer and Russia withdraws afterwards. Take your pick.)
Good God in Heaven, my track record on being right is amazing.
One last thing: for the knee-jerk reactionaries here on FR, NO, I'm NOT advocating sending our men and women to Ukraine to fight Russia. There's clearly no need to. A Ukraine citizen militia is kicking their asses all on their own.
Yogi, the ranger’s not going to like that!

Mikhail Khodarenok’s article about the course of a possible Russian war on Ukraine appeared in NVO last week. He’s a knowledgeable and realistic analyst.
And he’s a Russian patriot given his military career and service in the General Staff. But he’s one who says what the Kremlin doesn’t want to hear, but needs to.
reddit has a discussion on it.
Russan state TV featured a voice of reason who actually did some thinking for himself. Let us hope he doesn't drown in a freak fishing accident later today.
It has to be devastating for Putin mentally and emotionally that instead of leaving a legacy of restoring Russia to some of it’s former “glory”, he will be known as the greatest destroyer of Russia in modern times, maybe ever. And there is nothing he can do about that. The Grim Reaper is at the door, time has run out.
Sounds like Putin may want to pull the trigger and declare victory for the little piece of eastern and southern Ukraine real estate he has acquired to save some face and grab Zelensky’s offer not to join NATO and bring this thing to a close.
They are going to be more competent defensively simply because lower quality troops generally can do a better job with simple defensive tasks than offensive tasks. But that means a long war of attrition without hope of any real victory, and that is demoralizing as hell when you're not defending your own country.
This whole colossally stupid error by Putin is what happens when everyone around you is scared to tell you unpleasant truths.
We had plenty of negative retired military when Trump was President.
Sounds like Putin getting the kiss off from the mother land.
Who writes this crap? It’s so stupid it makes my head hurt. My bad for reading the whole subject line.
