ROME—Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Pope Francis has floated the idea that he wants to take a trip to Kyiv to try to broker a ceasefire. But now he says he would prefer to go to Moscow to try to talk some sense into Vladimir Putin, who he has not outwardly condemned in the now nearly three-month-old war and only did so lightly in a lengthy interview with an Italian newspaper.
“I feel that before going to Kyiv, I must go to Moscow,” he told Corriere Della Sera in an interview that ran Tuesday. But the meeting would not exactly be to condemn Putin, based on what he told the paper. He said that the real “scandal” of Putin’s war is “NATO barking at Russia’s door,” which he said caused the Kremlin to “react badly and unleash the conflict.”
Never mind that the 85-year-old pontiff is unable to walk after tearing a ligament in his knee (for which he says he will soon have surgery), or that Putin won’t even answer his calls.
Francis repeated comments he has made in general audiences and in other interviews that the war is nothing more than a giant opportunity for a “trade in arms” and that it is still ongoing because of the constant shuttling of weapons to Ukraine. He has spoken twice by phone to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but mostly to urge him not to fight back. He also went to the Russian embassy to the Holy See days after the invasion began to “register his concerns” about what was happening.

A broken clock might be right twice a day, but a clock going backwards will be right more often.
Interesting analogy extension.
You hit the nail on the head.
Well... those Liztards are kinda bad people.
so you end up being obambambuttboys, upholding all his actions towards Ukraine as righteous... such as betrayal, projection of weakness, nuclear proliferation
Could we please keep the discourse on FreeRepublic civil? We are not leftists here.
Unlike you, who supports a flaming homosexual and supports child molesters in their corruption in Ukraine.
Wait, what? I need some caffeine.
Got your “I 💘 PUTIN” bumper sticker?
***Tagline worthy. I’ll update the tagline page.

Is that really necessary? Freerepublic used to have standards.
NATO started the war by not invading Russia?
The Pope believes countries should have no borders, at least European ones and the United States, and illegal aliens should be able to walk right in. He’s always going on about how walls are evil and all that, even though God seems to approve of walls a few times in the Bible.
Hey Putin Puffer: Got your “I 💘 PUTIN” bumper sticker?
he should just borrow yours
Agree, and leads back to our oil embargo against them. Likely the right thing to do, given how strong Japan was becoming and their ideology supporting uncontrolled expansion, but us acting ‘surprised’ they attacked was probably a bit of play-acting.
Japan wanted the natural resources of the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia).
***Yet another example of a war over oil/gas/ports, in 2012 oil & gas reserves were being explored by Exxon and western oil companies. This war is about oil & gas reserves. The last time we had an oppressive regime invade their neighbor over oil & gas, an international coalition kicked his ass back to Iraq.

Why Russia wants to invade Ukraine

The Russians weren’t even interested in eastern Ukraine until oil was found there. Their interest is simply in raping that country. Russia gets 60% of its revenues from oil exports. Europe gets 40% of their oil from Russia.
In 2012 massive oil and gas reserves were found in Crimea. Crimea signed a $10 billion exploration contracts with Shell and Chevron to develop the new found oil and gas fields. These oil and gas products would compete in Europe with Russia’s oil and gas, reducing Russia’s oil revenues, which we recall amount to 60% of their total GDP. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, cancelling the contracts with Shell and Chevron.
But Ukraine still had massive reserves in, you guessed it, Donetsk and Luhansk, and other areas East of the Dnieper River. In 2019, Energy Secretary Rick Perry visited Ukraine, and soon after Ukraine awarded exploration contracts to a consortium of U.S. oil companies. Again, these oil reserves would compete in Europe with Russian oil, so Putin is invading Ukraine to shut down this latest attempt to extract Ukrainian oil and sell it in competition with Russian oil.
This explanation makes more sense to me than the “Putin feels threatened by NATO expansion” excuses for the invasion.

If the Ukes allow some small region in the west to be its own republic, but the OIL belongs to Ukraine, do ya think Pootypoot would allow that? Nope.
We should set up a thread where each side agrees to keep it civil. Notify the moderators. IF anyone who has agreed steps out of line, they get a 1 week zot.
You honestly think this war is about someone who appears to be homosexual even though he has a family? There are tens of thousands of Ukes suffering, it’s about THEM not him. What does it take to get your side to stop being trolls?
Hey, Frack off. If you’re only gonna pick ONE side to pick on, then pick the side that STARTED the fight.
Better then being a Biden Butt Boy
