LOUISVILLE, Ky. – There’s really nothing normal about this, not at all.
Stuff 20 3-year-old horses into a metal contraption. Surround them with about 150,000 cheering fans, many lunatics fortified for the previous eight hours with alcoholic beverages. Have them run 1 1/4 miles with tiny, brave humans on their backs. Make them turn left a couple of times. See which one emerges first. Then throw roses on that horse’s back.

Read or heard an interview with Turcotte some years ago.
As Secretariat entered the final Belmont home stretch, Turcotte said he looked back to see how close the other horses were and was surprised not to see any, They were all still too far back around the final curve to be in view. I think either in the old films or maybe the movie you can see him glance back.
Has anyone claimed to have a tranny horse yet?
In the standard footage, Turcotte’s head is too small/fuzzy to see but I have no doubt that is true if he said so.
They do geld horses. I don’t think male horses can identify or geld themselves into being able to run with the fillies, yet.
Did everyone catch that Ford commercial?
I think - and my teen son did too - that Ford was taking a pot-shot at Elon Musk!
Veiled in lovely misrepresentations, too!
That’s a famous photograph from a rail photographer.
We knew we were watchign a potential Triple Crown.
Only time I didn’t cash a winning ticket. He paid hte minimum, $2.10, straight across.
I definitely. wouldn't leave Baffert's (now trained by Tim Yakteen) Taiba, Messier, horses out.
I like the two Happy horses-Happy Jack and Smile Happy. Also Epicenter and Cyberknife. Maybe Simplification for a long shot bet?
I think it's actually wide open -anyone could win.😏
President Trump is there and NBC actually showed him. 👍
Yes, and I also thought they were taking a cheap shot at Elon Musk.
However, I'm all for Elon building a rocket to send all the elitists who resent humanity, off to Venus, or better yet Uranus.
About to go....
Taiba
80-1 Rich Strike (properly named lol) offered for $30,000 in a claiming race last year. Wow!
I LOVED that finish!
The 2 favorites fighting it out, ahead of the others, then the last-minute entry sneaks by, ignored by the caller until he actually got up there.
Hilarious!
Top 3 in a small tight group, ahead of the others. Good solid finish, no shame for the 2 favorites to fins in this way.
80-1!!!!!!....holy guacamole!!!!!
What a great race and a beautiful horsie winner.
This result is why I said in #20 that I only bet a couple of long shots. Did go long enough today :( Thought Taiba would be the chalk horse winner.
I only bet exotics generally. It’s always a long shot in the derby that seems to upend me. Usually it’s a 2nd or 3rd that burns me. Picking those long shots on the super or tri is mighty tough. $321,000 $1 super.
My husband and I saw it, and I shouted “Bitter much?” at the TV.
Ford acts like they’re the only company that hores people and makes things.
Hires people. HIRES people.
