“I don’t presume to offer up the lives of other peoples children to some perceived reputation america has on the global stage.
I would only do that if I felt my country is directly threatened.”
I’m old but not so so old that I no longer carry a pager. If it goes off then off I go. So I am not asking anything of anyone else that I haven’t done myself and am not willing to do again.
That is the point isn’t it. I am not willing to sacrifice my own life nor anyone else’s for the sake of a civil war halfway around the globe, where our immediate interests are not involved.
How many times must we relearn that lesson.
I'll turn 68 next week, and I'd be willing to join the fray if it were necessary. Give me a little retraining, and I'd be just like those old company commanders in the years after the Civil War.
That's where the term "Old Man" comes from. You had Captains with 20+ years time in grade serving as Company Commanders. It was an affectionate term for the CO. LOL, as a 29 YO Battery Commander, I loved it when I heard the term...and I heard it a lot.
