There have been multiple studies on D all along. Far less likely to be hospitalized or die if your level was sufficient.

Not to throw cold water on the study but I was on daily vitamin D supplements in Jan ‘20 when I contracted Covid. 11 days in the hospital and a quad bypass to help repair organ damage. I wouldn’t count on supplement protection. Imo it’s all about viral loading.

“Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin.
Too many folks spend far too much time indoors.”

Probably why the lockdown instructions were so often stated as as “stay in your home”. Low vitamin D is a factor in almost all disease and poor health, including obesity. When is the last time the industrial medical complex recommended sunlight. Instead they scare you with skin cancer.

Someone ought to see if the number of Vitamin D level tests ordered by healthcare professionals has gone up in the last three years.

I had one ordered during this cluster. Fir the first time ever.

Never got an explanation for why it was ordered, either.

If the number of tests ordered suddenly and unexpectedly shot up a couple of years ago, Houston, we have a problem.

WTF?

That's always helpful... :(

The article says it reduces, not eliminates, risk.

The point is still that, vitamin D cannot be counted on to help, even if it seems to do so according to a study.

BTW, perhaps that study needed a lot more subjects in order to be more meaningful.

Take 5,000 units of D3 along with 100mcg of K2. Take D3 and K2 at the end of a meal (preferably breakfast) that contains at least 14 grams of healthy fats. Taking vitamin D3 and K2 together promotes new bone growth. Do not take any form of vitamin K if you are on blood-thinning medication without the approval of your doctor.

Take 200 mg magnesium glycinate about an hour before bed each night. Magnesium plays a key role in bone and muscle function and assists in the activation of vitamin D.

I have no idea if Vitamin D is good for fighting Covid or not. Maybe it is; maybe it isn’t. What is reality though is that for every “expert” proponent of something there will always be a countering “expert” opponent.

Hell, maybe beer is the ultimate cure-all. One can take Ben Franklin’s observation that “We have beer because God wants us to be happy,” and extend it to “We have beer because God wants us to be healthy.”

For the record, the daily dosage for D3 is relevant.

Many believe that for an average adult the dosage should be 5,000 units goosed up to at least 7,000 in the winter and flu season.

Several here know that 10,000 is a good winter dose

I’ve been taking vitamin D for many years, and I still contracted Covid-19.

Me too! Slight fever overnight and then a sore throat the next morning for about an hour.

Vitamin D levels for most people are way too low. There has been a lot of literature indicating that the recommended levels are in fact...way too low for general health let alone for fighting Covid.

The best source of Vitamin D is the sun. My doctor tested my blood as part of a routine blood screening. He had suggested to me take Vitamin D before the result even came back. Why? Because he assumed by my age I would deficient. I didn’t start and he called telling me to hold off and wanted to know what I was doing to have ‘such high levels.’ I explained I spent most afternoons out walking dogs in the sunshine.
