Churchill Actually, they knew both. The British won a big victory over the Italians in 1941 when they overran Ethiopia, Eritrea and Italian Somaliland. And they experienced a significant defeat in the Dodecanese Islands in 1943.

Because they had American Help—without it—the Brits would have lost the war—also Hitler fancied himself a General and made some stupid mistakes (Like invading USSR declaring war in the USA etc...).
