‘Woke’ Democrats, including AOC, want to strip former Mayor Koch’s name from 59th Street Bridge

A slew of prominent “woke” Democratic politicians including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez want to remove the name of the late ex-Mayor Ed Koch from the 59th Street Bridge — but foes are blasting the move as “cancel culture out of control.’’

The push for the name change is being propelled by the Jim Owles LGBT Democratic Club, whose leader, Allen Roskoff, despised Koch for his belated response to the AIDS crisis.

The club has sent out a questionnaire to pols seeking its endorsement — and one of its queries asks, “In view of the fact that Ed Koch has been documented to have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people with AIDS, and was blatantly racist, would you support a city bill to re-name the former Queensboro Bridge?”

“Do you authorize the use of your name for such a purpose?” the questionnaire adds, referring to whether the pol would be OK with his or her support being made public.

I lived in NYC most of my life. The Lindsey and Beame administrations were a lot worse. The city really declined in the late 60’s and during the 70’s and set the stage for the 1980’s. Koch had his problems as well but was better than Lindsey and Beame in my opinion.

It was always a ‘’polite secret’’ that Koch was gay so what’s The Bronx Barmaid all upset about?

I thought her crowd liked the homos?

Don’t forget Stanley Freedman, he was Mane’s partner in crime and Al Damato and the Wedtech Scandal.

I was working in NYC during the last half of the Koch administration and the place was a hell hole.

I hate how New York City changed the names of bridges. The 59th St Bridge should always be the Queensboro Bridge. F. Scott Fitzgerald refers to the Queensboro Bridge in a great quote from “The Great Gatsby”.

Close ties to Cuomo the Original

I guess you don’t know about the NYC mayor election in 1977 and the vile whisper campaign “Cuomo, not the homo” against Koch. So much for “tolerant” Democrats. Koch and Cuomo did not get along.

“In view of the fact that Ed Koch has been documented to have caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people with AIDS...”

Hundreds of thousands? He must have been very active, a real super spreader. Puts Wilt Chamberlin to shame.
