The United States is considering the possibility of transferring frozen funds of the Central Bank of Russia to Ukraine

The US authorities are considering the possibility of transferring assets of the Bank of Russia frozen in the United States to Ukraine.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The question now, Blinken said, is whether there are legal provisions in the US that allow forfeiture. This issue is being considered by the staff of the Ministry of Justice.

"We're working very closely with the US Treasury and Justice Departments to explore how we can effectively freeze and seize assets," Blinken said.

During the discussion of this issue, Senator Patrick Leahy said that the US Federal Reserve has frozen almost $100 billion of the Central Bank of Russia.

At the end of February, the European Union banned its citizens from all transactions with the Bank of Russia and persons acting on its behalf and at its direction. The United States made a similar decision: American citizens were forbidden to conduct transactions with the Russian Central Bank, as well as with the Ministry of Finance and the National Welfare Fund.

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that due to Western sanctions, Russia has lost access to almost half of its gold and foreign exchange reserves - about $300 billion out of about $640 billion.

Fantastic idea. Russia pays a victim compensation fine just like in most other cases of criminal behavior.

You do know that ain’t gonna happen. How do you know Biden isn’t being blackmailed by Ukraine? That means there is no end to US taxpayers paying out the arse.

Didn't we do something like this to Post-World-War-One Germany?

How'd that work out for us?

And Biden is a F’n vegetable who may fire on the wrong place.

There is such a thing as mutually assured destruction. Pure stupidity, but I would expect Biden to do stupid and careless things.

Nobody will be filled with all this bravado in those short minute before it hits they know they screwed up.

What next, are they gonna take money from Trump because they don’t like his politics and give it to Biden?

FreeRepublic has become unrecognizable to me, seeing how many people here applaud moves like this. The US is in the process of completely forsaking the rule of law, and people here cheer its demise.

Let them take money from George Soros, Klaus Schwab, Jao Bai-din, Hunter Biden, Paul Pelosi, John Kerry Jr., Christopher Heinz (Kerry), Alex Vindman, and Victoria Nuland. They can charge Burisma Holdings as well.

What government? I don’t see a functioning government operating any longer - it’s every man for himself.

There are far too many people posting here who want an all-out war between the USA and Russia over one of the world’s most corrupt countries.

This is NOT the fight of the American people.

This is the fight of corrupt American POLITICIANS (both parties) who have been stealing Ukraine’s financial assets for YEARS and 1) want their gravy train to keep rolling and 2) want their dirty corruption hidden so they don’t get thrown in prison for the rest of their lives for the U.S.-funded bioweapons labs in Ukraine and their theft of billions of Ukraine’s energy income.

This is not OUR fight.

Russia is not going to sit on the sidelines and let these politician-crooks steal them blind.

There is nothing moral about encouraging more bloodshed, death and destruction of Ukraine.

Millions will die in an all-out war between the USA and Russia. How is that helpful to the world?

When the rule of law is done away with for liberals, conservatives want their laws equally relaxed.

The thing is, a simple glance at history shows us the outcome of such a move. Something like this was done to Germany after WW1, and we saw those results.

And, to anyone who would claim me to be a 'Putin Puffer', my grandfather on my father's side was a Ukrainian Kulak who barely escaped Stalin's Holodomor, so my initial response to the war is to side with the Ukraine.

But, the present day Ukraine is not the same Ukraine it was. Both sides, Russia and Ukraine, are hopelessly corrupt.

So it is not a matter of which side I am on. It is a matter of common sense. A move like the Biden administration is floating will only end in another world war.

Always entertaining. lol

So are the neocons.

Predictable. Obsequious. Lips planted firmly on Zelensky’s posterior.

But, yes. Entertaining.

Putin is Putin and Russia is Russia. Evil to the core for what they are doing to Ukraine.

But on FR, we have our very loud minority 3% of Liberaltarians, proving they are as feckless and as weak as, and to the Left of Joe Biden.

Some have professed their allegiance to the Russia/China authoritarian and communist cabal. It’s quite a spectacle to see former conservatives turned liberaltarian traitors.

Both sides, Russia and Ukraine, are hopelessly corrupt.

Where we are today, I wonder if anybody could convincingly make the case that the US is any less corrupt.

Ok, I just saw who published this. It is a Ukrainian publication. There is too much agitprop coming out of both Russia and the Ukraine to take anything either publishes, seriously.
