ussia launched an intercontinental missile in an apparent bid to scare those who "threaten" Moscow this afternoon (April 20). Russia is currently invading Ukraine and launched the ballistic missile, known as "Satan II" as a "warning", according to the Russian Ministry of Defence. The news comes from the Russian media who say that the launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was carried out at the Plesetsk cosmodrome.

It is reported that President Vladimir Putin said that the missile would provide "food for thought for those who try to threaten Russia", reported The Mirror. The missile is said to be able to fire up to 12 nuclear missiles all at once and has been especially designed to evade anti-missile systems. It is also capable of flying over six thousand miles and destroying an area that is the size of France.

and destroying an area that is the size of France.

The hyperbole surrounding the destructive capacity of nuclear weapons has been out-of-hand for way too long. This particular assertion is just laughable. Perhaps Paris and suburbs, but the entire country?

And how many of these toys do we think they have? It's probably a lot LESS than might be imagined.

Pooti was too cowardly to do the hard work of building a successful prosperous Russian economy and nation post Communism .
Instead he takes the bully route, and invaded other countries .
A lazy cowards solution .

Well well well. Isn’t that scary.

I hear Biden launched something into his Depends when accosted by a 6 foot tall Easter Bunny that smelled about the same.

Well, that’s straightforward.

Every Russian mother-to-be gets three full years paid maternity leave at 100% of her working salary, while we here can’t even utter the now dirty word “mother” - Its birthing person now and you get zero benefits. Remind me again which culture is thriving?

“Remind me again which culture is thriving?“

Russia is a dying culture marked by despair and low birth rates .

The hippie dippy types of the 60’s would have made similar statements about what a great place Russia is.
Not true then, not true now.
And who is paying for moms to work for three years??
If you want to pay for that, go find a mom and offer to pay.

Intel:

How many megatons/kilotons per MIRV warhead?

The bottom line is that almost all of the megaton warheads are no more. Smaller, more accurate warheads in the kiloton range are preferred, as they are far cheaper to both produce and to maintain. Improvements in accuracy of the targeting systems also means you don’t need to make the warheads as big.

The United States built the greater number of multimegaton weapons, doing so in the late 1950s and 1960s mostly to equip its bomber force with a massive nuclear capability against the U.S.S.R. The U.S. largely abandoned such weapons in favor of smaller nuclear weapons, allowing more flexible delivery of larger numbers of warheads. Most of the Soviet strategic nuclear capability was in its ICBMs, but like the U.S. the Soviets deployed high-yield weapons before mostly shifting to smaller, multiple warheads.

The U.S. has now retired all of its multimegaton weapons. As of 2006, the Russians had only a few megatonnage warheads deployed, according to treaty data.

I doubt the Sarmat is deployed with megatonnage warheads. Far cheaper and better to go with a kiloton charge. I cannot find an actual number for these, but the Topol missile uses a 33 Kilo warhead.

The Topol-M (SS-27 Sickle) was developed starting in 1993. So this was the missile right before the Sarmat series.

One thing to note. The Sarmat is a liquid-fueled rocket, so it has to “warm up” before being fired. In ICBM parlance, this means the hatch cover is usually blown and the missile emits a strong infrared signature that can be seen from geosynchronous orbit. This warm-up period has to happen whether the rocket is permanent tube launched or mobile.

The USA will know several minutes before if the Ruskies are getting ready to launch.

Previous US Air Force doctrine (while I was still in) was to launch on this “observation”.

“Some favor a first strike that takes out the East and West coasts of the USA as the best chance for Putin Land to survive.”

The irony is that nobody actually wants “Putin Land”, except for the Chinese!

“Every Russian mother-to-be gets three full years paid maternity leave at 100% of her working salary...”

A desperation measure to try and stop the constant Russian population loss before they are once again reduced to being a tributary to the Asians.

It’s not the Russian name, it’s a name applied by Western military analysts.

I think you need to update those Soviet perceptions. 2022 Russia is not 1993 Russia. It may be hard to admit, but Russia is in a hell of a lot better shape that America of late. Socially and especially spiritually. As we descend into Communism and authoritarianism, half our country hates the other half. Russia, having all come out of communism, is very unified and nearly all conservative. They can accurately define man, woman and family without fear of being attacked or cancelled. The government also builds beautiful churches in the middle of cities. Imagine our government glorifying God by building a church. It’s inconceivable. There is also zero LGBT grooming in their schools or in their mass media. Where are we at? We’ve accepted living under a completely fraudulent regime due to a total failure of all the checks and balances. We accept weaponized government agencies jailing thought criminals in the nations capital. Were losing to LGBT, gender and CRT ideological poison. We’re completely at the mercy of China buying US treasury bonds to keep the dying petrodollar afloat and we’re now proving to the world just how dependable the US dollar is by stealing $300 billion of Russia’s money at the stroke of a government pen. You think that makes America more trusted in the world? I think you’ll see what society is stronger after six months of sanctioning one of the worlds largest commodity economies.

The American birth rate is 1.8. The Russian birth rate is 1.6. Slightly less but Russia strongly supports families and doesn’t allow degenerates to groom its children.
