The flagship of Russia's Black Sea fleet, the Moskva missile cruiser, was badly damaged when ammunition on board blew up, Interfax news agency quoted the defense ministry as saying on Thursday.
Interfax said the crew had been evacuated. It blamed the blast on a fire and said the cause was being investigated.
A Ukrainian official earlier said the Moskva had been hit by two missiles but did not give any evidence. The 12,500 tonne ship has a crew of around 500.

Should be satellite imagery upcoming. Sank or not sank won’t need to wait for any report.
Surprised a 1983 ship is “flagship”, which means the commanding Admiral is aboard, regardless of size when there are 2017 era frigates around. You would think the Admiral would be on those with superior comms.
How deep can it dive? ๐๐
:)
Did this sucker actually sink? A burned out hulk is just as good, tho’.
Ukes claim two hits with their (not even really into production yet) Neptune missiles. Comparison w/ the old Harpoons, anyone?
Maybe it had the biggest, jazziest Stateroom.
It looks, er, looked good in pics. Armed to the freakin’ teeth offensively and defensively, too.
IF the Ukes hit Moskva with a Neptune, a brand new weapon they’d developed, they may have succeeded with what was literally a pre-production “sample”.
Yes, but was it their ammo or the Ukranians ammo that caused the blast.

When you surround yourself with “yes” men you shouldn’t be suprised if “yes “ is the only answer you get.

Russian ships are notoriously top-heavy. They capsize easily.
The Moskva has been in service since about 1979 and was formerly named Slava (Glory), renamed in 1996. It was the flagship of the Black Sea fleet and has been involved in previous operations against Ukraine and Georgia. It has also been all over the globe making symbolic visits in places such as Havana and Malta.
There is an intense storm raging over the Black Sea at present. I am not entirely sure what portion of the Black Sea the cruiser was located in when struck, but the storm as of 0600h UT was over the central Black Sea and winds around it were in the 40-50 knot range. This would hamper rescue efforts to say the least.
This is no minor event. Hitting this target with apparent NATO assistance is more or less a potential black swan event. At the same time, this cannot help Putin’s position either, if there are in fact any background moves underway to unseat him. We had better hope there are and that they work very soon. The man is obviously delusional and crazy to have gotten into this fiasco, and now this — I would say he would go ballistic (and he is probably either in a plane coming back from eastern Siberia or just taking off now?).
We also have our own brand of crazy running western countries at the moment, men who value the opinions of those who like to muse about the blissful future of the earth when 90% of us are gone.
Other than that, nothing much to worry about is there?
The North Pole is obviously trying to provoke Russia! Putin should send forces to Santa's Workshop to de-nazify it!

This is what is known in military parlance as a "feint."
Clever Putin! Playing possum!

I hope that, in finest naval tradition, he bravely "went down with his ship!"

Putin: “I fight Nazism by invading countries and committing genocide.”
Why are so many assuming NATO assistance?
Given a modestly smart anti-ship missile brain / AI / electronics, all the Ukes would need is general location of the target. We know the Neptune missiles have upgraded / new electronics, and the latter hardly requires NATO assistance.
Agreed on most of the rest.
"Apparently, Ukraine flew a TB2 UCAV to distract the ship while it was targeted by the Neptun."
Brilliant!
