Luckily, all we probably need is some better fertilizer.
One item, whole corn, was $4 two years ago for a 50# bag. This is used as cheap feed for cows, hogs, goats, sheep, and chickens. This week I bought a bag...$10...this tells me that food prices are going to skyrocket beyond what people are expecting. Coupled with the increase in gas prices we are in for a difficult time. Urban liberals haven’t a clue on what is coming down the pike.
Should be okay in the upper midwest.
Pay attention to this fact.
p
no bread for you!!!
The ice age is coming, the sun’s zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
‘Cause London is drowning
I live by the river
That is wheat.
Hay is something totally different and you cut it green.
God is not happy that we put Biden in power.
Question: Is Wheat one of those grains that can be stored in huge quantities and for decades at a time?
I thought we should have grain reserves just for times like these.
Or did we give all our reserves away to other countries?
It looks like the freeloaders from south of the border are making a bad move sneaking into America. We’re already running out of food. How the hell are we going to feed 100 million illegal aliens? This joke is on them. Maybe they can eat their flags.
Main looks on the decent side of iffy right now.
I planted a 10 X 30 swathe in the garden last Fall, as a cover crop intending to till it in as green manure. If it looks good in the next few weeks, I’ll let it mature instead; otherwise back to Plan-A. Last Frost is mid-late may, so plenty of time to evaluate.
Not aa big harvest by any means, but enough to save for seed, and maybe add a bit to what is already stored.
This year will be heavy on heirloom dry beans & corn.
I guess back to adding sawdust or wood pulp.
Some here might think I am kidding. I am not.
They used wood pulp in Germany after WW2. Sawdust was used as an addition to flour in Europe.
My mom tried it once just to see what it was like...Nasty.
Not a good year for a bad year.
$10 cereal come December.

"Ukraine and Russia account for a third of global wheat and barley exports, which countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa rely on to feed millions of people who subsist on subsidized bread and bargain noodles. They are also top exporters of other grains and sunflower seed oil used for cooking and food processing."

We just got (today) the latest measurable snow on record (south-central and eastern Washington). A half inch of equivalent liquid precipitation which winter wheat should lap up.
