Zelenskyy warns of war in Donbas like 'the world has not seen in hundreds of years' as Russia masses troops for a new offensive on the eastern front

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday warned of fighting in Donbas that could result in the biggest war in centuries.

Speaking to the German newspaper BILD, owned by Axel Springer, Insider's parent company, Zelenskyy predicted intense fighting in the coming days.

"It could be a big war in Donbas — like the world has not seen in hundreds of years," he told BILD reporter Paul Ronzheimer.

"We will go on defending our country until the end," the Ukrainian president continued.

This chilling forecast echoes what Ukraine's foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba told NATO members on Thursday.

"The battle for Donbas will remind you of the Second World War," Kuleba said.

He used this warning to immediately call on Western allies to provide more heavy weaponry, including air defense systems, artillery, armored vehicles, and jets.

Yes it is a decent analogy.

By now there are likely some mass graves inside of reconquered territory. US satellite imagery could be of some assistance here.

Your right...the desert in eastern Ukraine is so much like Iraq that... bulldozers will be decisive there.

I used to wonder how ignorant of US Government somebody had to be to think that “agreement” had any official status whatsoever in the US.
***It was enough to get the Ukes to give up their nukes. Apparently there was a whole country that thought the USA couldn’t be the big @$$#0/e that YOU knew we could be.

I guess one has only to be as ignorant as Kevmo.
***One only has to be as much of an @$$#0/e as Mariner to foresee and approve of nuclear proliferation betrayal on such a scale that it threatens the whole world.

Nobody else in the US believes an agreement signed by Bill Clinton, against the advice of both houses of congress,
***Against the advice? Both houses of congress said they wanted nukes to proliferate? Well it appears that’s where we’re headed, since every country on the planet knows that we cannot be trusted to keep our word when it comes to nuke proliferation. And you approve of this. You have an incredible level of evil inside you.

and never submitted to either house for passage or ratification,
***Uhh, that’s quite a bit different than saying both sides were against it. Not that it matters to a situational ethics libertarian relatism moral squid such as yourself.

binds any person or element of our government.
***What BINDS us is knowing what the right thing to do is, and doing it. But since you’ve taken such an ambivalent amoral approach to moral things, it becomes an act of astonishment to discuss anything with you.

NOBODY but Kevmo.
***Nobody but Mariner is that evil, so far. Those are very antithetical values for a conservative on FR, by the way.

World War 1 tactics will not prevail there. Sand or no sand.

It sure sounds like you’re rootin’ for the Putler Tyranny Invasion Force. Putin Puffer.

The Putin Perverts posting in this thread and many others are fully bought and paid for Russian assets.
***I doubt that. I think they’re using the qtard approach to reasoning. They look for some global conspiracy thingie, look to see who’s on which side, and decide how they view it based upon where their enemies are. The problem with thinking like that is, sometimes your enemies are right.

I’m not certain if they are paid by the post or the hour
***People say that all the time when they disagree with some side. They’ve said it about me. It aint true. It’s just another guy at a desk somewhere with an opposing opinion. When they can’t defend their opinions using sound reasoning, logic, and avoidance of classical fallacies, then their opinion is basically worthless.

but either way they spend a lot of time posting Russian propaganda.
***I think they get pushed into it by way of their fallacious reasoning process.

Ukraine has a solid 30 years of being a country.

That's nonsense. Either you know nothing about history or you are just repeating Russian talking points. Which one is it?

I presume you think the Ukrainian language just appeared on earth 32 years ago. And maybe you don't realize that Ukrainians fought in the Second World War. That happened a long time before 1988, didn't it?

And what about those Ukrainians that were killed fighting with the Russians in the early 1900s? Were they time travelers from 1990?

More atrocious activity there than Ukraine.

You may be busy defending your wife and therefore not paying attention to world affairs, but except for Syria none of the places you cited - Yemen, Myanmar, or the DRC have suffered the kind of destruction unleashed by the Russians in Ukraine.

And each of those situations are essentially civil wars, not invasions of separate nations by a tyrannical nation.

Uhh, we never occupied Canada, but we tried, as much of the War of 1812 was fought there.

Maybe you should try a different site?

Maybe the old Mariner gets a thrill out of all the violence, rape, and killing of civilians in Ukraine. For some people Putin's antics make them feel good. There were people like that in 1939 too.

The bulk of Ukraine’s best most professional forces are trapped in the Donbas where they had been massing for an attack prior to the Russian invasion.

The Ukrainians have plenty of armed forces and they are not "trapped". The Russians are having a hard time making progress in areas they should easily control. Their military has nowhere near the level of performance that many believed it did.

“Either you know nothing about history or you are just repeating Russian talking points. Which one is it? “

I am quite adept at history.

Perhaps you know of another time when Ukraine was an actual country, and independent of Russia or one of its other neighbors?

No. You don’t.

” suffered the kind of destruction unleashed by the Russians in Ukraine”

I specifically cited atrocity.

And in each of the those countries the killing exceeds that in Ukraine.

But you act as if the killing is special if it’s done as a flagged national invasion. Because to a neocon all borders are sacrosanct...except when they’re not. And only when the neocon says so.

The Ukrainians are getting their asses kicked.

That's why the Russians got driven out of large parts of Ukraine and lost a large percentage of their equipment and soldiers. Nothing says "we're kicking their asses" like leaving thousands of your dead soldiers laying in the dirt next to the burnt out hulks of their vehicles and running back to the border.

That is the kind of dripping sarcasm that can only come from 12yr old girls and homosexuals.

BTW...I don’t get a thrill from it.

I simply don’t care.

And won’t take lecture from a hypocrite that gives Ukraine special status, but would not lift a finger over atrocity in another country.

Nice try. You put in a new condition, made up by you - "independent" of one of its neighbors.

Ukraine was independent in 1918, and the 1920 Treaty of Warsaw also recognized its independence.

Why is the hair splitting about Ukraine's history even important? You know Germany's boundaries have changed over time, and parts of our own nation belonged to other nations in the past.

Would it be OK for Russia to invade Alaska since it was part of Russia previously?

Is it OK for illegal immigrants from Mexico to pour across our border because they are really just going to lands that used to be part of Mexico?

Zelensky sold his soul and the fate of his people during the "perfect phone call" that led to the failed impeachment of President Trump.

Are you serious? President Trump called President Zelensky. How was that "selling his soul"? They had a normal call between leaders of independent nations.

It wasn't Zelensky's fault that some deep state DNC snakes in the White House, and corrupt Democrats in Washington DC used that call in yet another attack on President Trump.

“Would it be OK for Russia to invade Alaska since it was part of Russia previously? “

How silly.

I didn’t say any invasion, by anyone was OK. Or not OK.

But I have said clearly and unambiguously that I don’t care.

You are ascribing intent like Democrats do.

Your response is suspiciously specific. Do you spend a lot of time thinking about 12 year old girls or are little boys on your mind more?
