Fentanyl overdose is now the leading cause of death for US adults ages 18 to 45, according to numbers from the CDC.
Official overdose numbers for 2020 were 40% higher than the previous year. Fentanyl was to blame for 73% of those overdoses. In 2021, preliminary data indicates fentanyl was involved in 77% of overdose deaths.
That 77% is a dramatic increase from the 31% of fentanyl-involved overdose deaths in 2016. The percentage has increased every year since, up to 53% in 2017, 56% in 2018 and 61% in 2019.

I believe that you are under-thinking things. There are good people in the world, and bad people, and a whole bunch who are both good and bad. When bad people are good enough to off themselves, then I am not sorry about it. I think the world is improved. This is a sad situation and, imo, criminality is definitely involved.

People DO get led to drugs by doctors. If the pain isn’t continuous and life-long, they have options: (1) use them responsibly, (2) don’t use them at all, or (3) abuse and get hooked on them. “Just say no” actually works.
I can’t relate to or criticize people who must be on extreme pain meds for continuous and life-long excruciating pain. Who knows what they’re driven to? Do they OD/die while using drugs as prescribed? That’s on the doctor, and a horrible tragedy. Is their drug used considered abuse or healthcare?
When drug use is recreational, then I have no sympathy. Better that those people leave this earth.
BTW, I HAVE had advanced cancer and drugs, resulting in a mastectomy and opioids for extreme pain. I chose to not take pain meds. That was 2014 and I just found the pills in my med cabinet and threw them away. But I had the “luxury” of knowing it wouldn’t last forever and decided to tough it out.
