Russia hadn’t lost a warship to an attack since World War II. Until last week.
On Thursday, the Ukrainian navy announced it destroyed a Russian amphibious warship, the Saratov, that was conducting resupply missions in the Ukrainian port of Berdyansk. While the details are fuzzy, it's yet more proof that Russia’s war in Ukraine isn't going well.
Following the invasion, Turkey invoked the 1936 Montreux Convention and denied entry to all foreign warships not previously based in the Black Sea. What’s there now, and perhaps what Russia can bring by canal from the Caspian Sea, is all the navy Russia will have for this war. Before the invasion, Russia moved warships from around the world to bolster its combat power near Ukraine. In total, 12 large surface and nine amphibious warships massed in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov on Ukraine’s southern coast.
It isn’t known what smashed the ship involved, but Ukraine is known to have attacked Russian warships with artillery and mines. The ship's demise, however, should encourage the United States and NATO to deliver anti-ship cruise missiles to Ukraine. One example might be the truck-mounted version of the Harpoon missile system. The Norwegian helicopter-launched Penguin anti-ship missile could also be brought into play.

Thus far the Russian Navy has been able to land supplies and troops into southeastern Ukraine without serious harassment. The Russian position in southeastern Ukraine would not be tenable if this link were seriously disrupted.
Russia hadn’t lost a warship to an attack since World War II. ...
But a fair number due to incompetence, etc.
I wonder if the French still have some exocets they’d be willing to donate.
I just saw a video report that the Ukrainians lured the Russian warship of Snake Island fame (”Russian warship, go **** yourself!”) close enough to shore to be in range of an unguided missile battery. (ie. basically shore artillery) The Ukrainians are claiming to have destroyed it. There are shots of something on fire and smoking the next morning (it was a night missile attack). Don’t know if it is destroyed or just severely damaged. Either way, a pretty good PR coup if it is the ship from Snake Island.
The Exocet though still used is basically obsolete. The supersonic and hypersonic antiship missiles are the new rage.
So, now the Washington Examiner has declared itself a propaganda rag.
Alrighty, then. /s
It has been crummy for awhile now. Went south just like the Times. Story could still be true though.
It’s wild that you have to go off-site to get anything real these days...
A freighter was damaged (not sunk) by missile attack and departed for repairs.
UK PM Johnson said he will supply anti ship missiles
but Ukraine has mines for destroying ships and
shore mines.
USA has Tow missiles but nobody has listed them
being enroute to Ukraine.
The Turkish UAV could sink ships just like they
destroyed tanks.
It turns out that Russia can’t maintain their
planes and tanks because the parts were made
in Ukraine and since the war third party countries
won’t sell parts to Russia because of sactions.
Note to USA we are vulnerable because of offshoring
our strategic parts to places like China. Better
bring our manufacturing of said parts back to
being “Made in the USA” MAGA
Farm Tractors fitted with flotation devices?
A flintlock is likewise "basically obsolete."
Would you mind if I fired one at you at point-blank range?
Regards,
If Ukraine has the missiles to do it, during a counter offensive, an attack on the Russian naval base at Sevastopol would remind them that the annexation of Crimea still needs to be resolved.
That would be a naval target rich area.
Thank you for posting that. It’s good to see a calm discussion of events and I always appreciate Viva Fred’s good work.
Those caused Thatcher to threaten Mitterand she would use nukes on Argentina if it did not stop… I think delivery of French exocet would trigger WWIII, which is what China and Putin are hoping for, in a way. Their troops are better than ours at pushing in hellish terror conditions of incompetence and other disasters
I blame every single US administration in power since 2014 for there not being any Harpoon anti-ship missiles deployed in Ukraine prior to this invasion by Russia. Russia would have a hard time bringing in supplies through ports on the Sea of Azov if there were trucks with Harpoon missiles nearby.
A club is obsolete. That doesn't prevent you from being dead if a native bashes in your skull...
Pearl Harbor was provoked by FDR’s communists at the State Department because the Japanese wanted help from the US to suppress the Soviet sponsored Chinese communist movement.
So, yes, we have false flags, however, with Biden in power, this one is not meant to support Ukraine but to feign its support and let Putin roll in despite the disaster of his military. What the focus should be is tHe narrative, and the narrative is that Russia is moving forward in the end in Ukraine despite disasters, while we run away in a debacle in Afghanistan and many other places for a 100th of the damage. The same thing is happening with Iran where State is using a dispute to let itself talk into giving money to Iran instead of ignoring those scumbags.
Same with the narrative from the Smithonian propaganda museums establishing the story and the FBI “bungling”, lying and getting caught siding. They do not care if the media or FBi is sloppy or loses suits, what is important to them is the final story line about Jan6, Mandalay Bay , Murat bombing muslim John Doe found again around 911 etc.
“Pearl Harbor was provoked by FDR’s communists at the State Department because the Japanese wanted help from the US to suppress the Soviet sponsored Chinese communist movement.”
This may be one of the dumbest comments ever made FR. Nothing in it is remotely true.
Pearl Harbor was not “provoked”. It was a supporting operation to slow the US Navy’s response to the Japanese invasion of the “Southern Resource Area” (Malaya and the Dutch East Indies) and the Philippines.
The Japanese attacked due the western (not just US) embargo of oil.
That embargo only existed due to Japan’s invasion of China and their occupation of French Indochina. Which, by the way, was direct threat to the Commonwealth of the Philippines, which was still American soil.
Nothing was provoked by the US. Japan provoked the war by series of invasions of it’s neighbors.
