Ambushed convoys and broken tanks. Generals killed close to the front. Expired rations. Frostbite. The Russian military was built for quick and overwhelming firepower, experts say, but its weakness is logistics. And on the roads of Ukraine a month after the first invasion, that weakness is showing.
‘The tyranny of distance’
Many analysts say the Russians assumed they would quickly capture the capital city of Kyiv and force President Volodymyr Zelensky out of power. Whatever the strategy, that outcome did not happen, and Russia has been bedeviled by an inability to keep supplies flowing to troops in a longer ground war.
After weeks of little success except in southeastern Ukraine, despite relentless shelling and thousands of military and civilian casualties, Moscow said during peace negotiations on Tuesday that it would “drastically reduce” military activity in the northern part of the country, near Kyiv and Chernihiv.
After a surprisingly fierce Ukrainian resistance, “we can suspect” that Russians “did not properly organize the logistics necessary for an effective Plan B, which was to have an actual, serious fight in what is the largest country in Europe outside of Russia,” said Michael Kofman, director of Russia studies at CNA, a think tank in Virginia.
The sheer size of Ukraine is a problem.

Um No. don’t be silly.
Russia has taken a bloody nose.
But the other poster claiming the they had lost already is jumping the gun.
Russia has been fighting many small dirty wars for a long time.

Fake News..waste of time reading it.
“The only problem with that theory, is that Russian units that were in that “feint” were mauled and will require some time to refit.”
So they say and some here in the US who are more reliable say not or exaggerated!
Fake News..waste of time reading it. I refuse to read NYT, Post, or them any longer.
Those who constantly cite these sources should be looked at with skepticism too.

What we have is a melange of ethnic and religious interests. The Indians support Russia because it’s India’s supposed all-weather friend, whatever that means. Then there’s the white nationalist*, pan-Slavic and pan-Orthodox types, who think Russia, with Putin at its head, will champion their cause and lead it from strength to strength.
Finally, there are the smart alecky types like Tucker Carlson, who think merely being different is a sign of high intelligence and deep sophistication. While it’s not as facile as dying your hair pink, aping the Mohawk do or as psychotic and permanent as cutting off your nether parts, it’s no less mistaken.
* The amusing thing is that stormfronters are conflicted. Some are thrilled that Azov is supposedly a Nazi organization. Others are unhappy that Azov is fighting white Russians (as opposed to the Tartars who are apparently well-represented in the Russian military). Then you have the members who are suspicious of Azov’s Nazi credentials, given the dismissive comments from the ADL:

Russia has been fighting many small dirty wars for many many years.
Far to soon to count them out.

Throw the Daily Mail in there, which gets listed here all day too
Got a link for that? Most reports from around the world indicate that the Russian forces near Kyiv suffered serious damage. Losing hundreds of tanks, IFVs, and trucks and thousands of soldiers is not the usual goal of a "feint".
Not yet.Russia is an Asian power in the culture and the politics evem as Great Russians are European/Slavic genetically. Asians armies continue to attack until they are wiped out or prevail. They indulge in slaughter of the general population in attack and in retreat. will use whatever he sees as required to not lose including nukes. He can only be deterred by a counter threat he cannot contemplate. Mad me do not have even that limit.
[There are plenty of “Nazis” in the Russian affiliated forces in the Donbass.]
In a 2018 interview, Andriy Biletsky explained that he regards Israel and Japan as role models for the development of Ukraine.[108]]
AZOV is estimated to be 1500-2000 strong. It is a small unit and not particularly well armed. If the Russians have not been able to wipe them out in five weeks of fighting, that pretty much shows right there just how bad the Russian invasion has fared to present.
Some of those "stalled columns" aren't racing anywhere.
According to some of the Putin apologists the entire purpose of the Russian invasion was to get rid of AZOV. So far the Russians have managed to lose somewhere in the range of 4 to 7 soldiers for every AZOV member, and at least one vehicle for every AZOV member. And that's not counting however many Russians the actual AZOV members have managed to kill in Mariupol.
But supposedly the Russians launched a giant feint operation and it was all part of the plan.
Perhaps that's true; perhaps it's not. UKR/NATO propaganda has been so thick -- and questions resisted so vociferously -- that I don't believe anything we're being told. I've been observing and piecing together as many pieces of information as I can find, and strangely finding Russia's frontline reporting to be more forthcoming and rational than the breathless, over-the-top Western accounts that seem to be corrected every few days. The truth is going to come out eventually, so we'll see...
