New vehicles sold in the United States will have to travel an average of at least 40 miles per gallon of gasoline in 2026, up from about 28 mpg, under new federal rules unveiled Friday.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said its fuel economy requirements will undo a rollback of standards enacted under President Donald Trump. For the current model year, standards enacted under Trump require the fleet of new vehicles to get just under 28 miles per gallon in real-world driving. The new requirements increase gas mileage by 8% per year for 2024 and 2025 year models and 10% for 2026 models.

Some consolidation prize for the families of those 6 young girls that were crammed into a 2000 pound sardine can and got hit by a dump truck
If they’d been in a 50s Chrysler sedan, they’d have barely broken a fingernail

Exactly. They will force people who want to stick to internal combustion engines to drive down the road in tin cans in order to meet the fuel standards in order to “fight climate change.”
Meanwhile, nothing will be said about the environmental impact of lithium mining for electric vehicle batteries.

    Jesus misspoke,
He said we will have poor always.
What he meant to say was “we will have

So we will always suffer.

My 1990 Lincoln MK VII got 32 mpg pre alcohol and my 1997 Towncar got 30 mpg pre alcohol.
Alcohol in the fuel dropped both 4 points.
