The head of Russia's space agency says it is suspending ISS cooperation with NASA and the European Space Agency amid Western sanctions

Russia is suspending its cooperation on the International Space Station (ISS), according to Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russian space agency Roscosmos.

The country will also suspend its partnership with NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), Rogozin said.

Newsweek and others first reported the story.

In a series of tweets written in Russian on Saturday, Rogozin said: "I believe that the restoration of normal relations between partners in the International Space Station and other joint projects is possible only with the complete and unconditional lifting of illegal sanctions."

Rogozin said he sent a letter to NASA, the ESA, and the CSA demanding that they lift sanctions against a number of enterprises in the Russian rocket and space industry.

NASA responded with its own letter, which appeared to be signed by NASA chief Bill Nelson, according to a photo shared by Rogozin.

Insider has not been able to independently verify the authenticity of the letter, which said: "The US continues to support international government space cooperation, especially those activities associated with operating the ISS with Russia, Canada, Europe, and Japan."

Biden (and thus, Obama) have singlehandedly reignited the Cold War.

All I know is if it was Trump doing all this, they’d have impeachment hearings going on.

You know, because tney had them going for far less.

Predictable

So what’s Rogozin gonna do? Takeover the station, have his guys prevent the next Dragon flight from docking?

Putin’s so-called Space Program is in shambles. They consolidated all their space work into one location. When they had so much trouble launching and maintaining the program, Putin discovered an ‘unusual’ amount of thieving and graft. I state ‘unusual’ because 10% to 20% graft was understood, but this time they stole so much that they could not perform. I imagine more than a few heads rolled.

While we can still fly a helicopter on Mars, Putin will hurt Russia and its neighbors until he is stopped.

The Russians control some of the key stabilization equipment which is in one of the Russian modules. If they stop maintaining that equipment, the station will start to encounter increased drag and will slowly fall out of orbit.

How soon before it reenters the atmosphere? Going to be a cool light show for some.

Won't happen. Richard Branson, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos will form a partnership to salvage the ISS after the astronauts leave, and will convert it to a space hotel. They'll boost the ISS to a higher altitude with thrusters, and sell tickets to private thrill-seekers.

You do realize that we've had to pay Russia to transport our astronauts to and from the ISS for the last decade, right?

SpaceX can do it now. I think Russia has been charging bargain rates, even below what SpaceX would charge (though SpaceX has long undercut Russian rates for satellite launch services), but SpaceX can take over this service also.

After the way that the biden admin has been vengefully screwing with Elon, I would not be surprised if Elon to them to F* off the same way Russia is. At any rate, Elon only has a few man rated capsules. Not enough to handle the current needs.

You don’t understand Musk.
Rescuing the astronauts will be a propaganda coup vs the US administration. Its something he can throw in their teeth.
