The would-be Twitter killer has drawn only 1.2 million installations, according to Sensor Tower
Former president Donald Trump’s Truth Social app is seeing a 93% drop in signups and similarly steep decline in traffic after a rocky rollout last month fraught with technical issues and an extensive waiting list for new signups to actually use the service.
After going live on President’s Day, the Twitter-lookalike app saw installs decline by more than 800,000 since its launch week, according to Sensor Tower. Installs on the Apple app store this month have fallen to about 60,000 per week, based on early estimates.

It's also different from Twitter in that most "regular" people follow back. This is going to be a huge grassroots connection tool - conservatives talking to each other without filters and algorithms.
They could have chosen to open the floodgates and let everybody in at once. That would have surely overloaded the system, making it mostly unusable for everybody and providing a poor user experience.
Or they could choose to have a slow "beta" rollout where they only allow in groups of people at a time while they work out bugs and build out their infrastructure. This would provide a decent experience for the active users but would piss off the millions of Trump supporters waiting to get in.
Pros and Cons to both approaches but I think they went the right path here.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I'm doubting that Twitter went from zero to a million active users in a matter of six weeks from their launch.
It is working fine….
One of the reasons is because they are controlling the amount of new accounts as to not overload the system.
I’ve been #176,283 since day one. No change.
I was something like 465,897 when I signed up in early February. I got in 2 weeks ago. It’s still new, but I do believe it is going to be a success. I like the fact people here are doing what many new day Freepers do…bitch. Some here would complain if Jim Robinson gave them a check for $1,000,000.
It is true that facebook and twitter didn’t go from zero to millions in a month or two. That is true. However, no one had any expectations on using facebook or twitter so there was not the demand in the millions of users in the early days.
Trump had and emphasis on “had” many millions of followers eager to sign up on his new Truth Social. While the earlier platforms built capacity as demand increased, the software and hardware became established and more engineers became conversant with how the systems actually work.
So Trump had two choices, either re-invent the wheel or use existing technology and hire experienced engineers. Apparently Trump decided to save money and try to re-invent the wheel. But in the process of saving money he has made us all, including himself, look foolish. It is going to take a year or more of no mistakes to correct and overcome the 2 months of stupid this rollout has already caused. I wish it wasn’t this way but it is. Think about all that good will that has been waisted and for no good reason.
There is really no reason, based on current observations, to expect that the rollout of the Android app will go any better than that of the iOS app. Six weeks after the iOS rollout and it still doesn’t work. I know it doesn’t work because I have the app on my phone, have an account and I know doesn’t work when I see doesn’t work. And the same with the web based app. That puts us into July-August timeframe and that is being optimistic because what is in place now doesn’t work.
I think it prudent to write off Truth Social for his year at the minimum.
It was so long since i’ve tried getting in, I forgot my password... and the forgot password function doesn’t work.
So I resigned up. New p/w and handle [principled1 - added the “1”]
but now I’m number 27 bagillion.
My wait number is 1,357,849….I’m about to give up.
It is not working fine
I have worked in distributed systems and the internet my entire career.
If they can’t onboard a few hundred thousand users in 5 weeks, whatever they have is not working fine.
I personally have written and built systems that service billions of transactions a day.
If their system falls down with a few hundred thousand users, believe me it’s “not working fine”… it’s poorly designed and executed.
I was handling millions of users a day on systems in the 90s, long before virtualization and scaling models that exist today.
The worst part, and the true indication, of how screwed up this system is, is that there has been zero communication to any of the hundreds of thousands of users waiting for their accounts to work.
Everyone has problems and makes mistakes, and distributed complex systems are hard… but when you don’t communicate at all what’s going on, you are in a massive fail mode.
I myself can attest to being number 197xxx in the queue for just under 5 weeks… not a single change in status or communication of any sort.
Saying it’s working “perfectly” is nonsense… if it was you wouldn’t have 1/2 a million or more people all with the same story.
Whoever Trump hired to build and run this is inept. They should have known and expected abs been able to handle millions of users on launch day, and if not should not have launched.. and if they found problems so they needed to slow down growth then they should be communicating to the folks waiting.
They didn’t architect or execute properly on many levels, and no amount of spin will change that.
Oh and one more thing…
This system launch is beginning to make the Obamacare web site launch look competent
You can’t download the app to an Android phone so unless you have an iPhone you can’t participate. I have an android or I would have signed up.
And searching, I see nothing from them. As if it is all okay or normal, else head in sand cowering.

This particular one’s CEO is also the CEO of a Chinese company which means, in practice, that your data goes to a CCP data base.

It obviously was launched way before it had the capacity or organization to launch. That can take the air out of the balloon for any momentum very quickly.
