BRUSSELS (AP) — With stunning speed, Russia’s war in Ukraine is driving Western Europe into the outstretched arms of the United States again, especially apparent when President Joe Biden offered a major expansion of natural gas shipments to his European Union counterpart Friday.
Talking to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Biden said the core issue was “helping Europe reduce its dependency on Russian gas as quickly as possible.” And Europe, which relies on Moscow for 40% of the natural gas used to heat homes, generate electricity and drive industry, needs the help.
An economic miscalculation with massive geopolitical consequences, many European Union nations let themselves become ever more reliant on Russian fossil fuels over the years, vainly hoping trade would overcome Cold War enmity on a continent too often riven by conflict.
But climate campaigners criticized the agreement and called instead for the U.S. and EU to focus on renewable energy and reducing fossil fuel demand.
That “is a more affordable and sustainable solution that does not lock Europe into infrastructure or deals it does not need,” said Raphael Hanoteaux, senior policy adviser at the Brussels-based environmental group E3G.
“By the time the terminals could help us, we could already have achieved the transition” to renewable energy, youth activist Clara Duvigneau said at a climate rally in Berlin.

All this liberal claptrap disappears once the real world introduces itself.
What is the status of our US natural gas consumption, production, imports, exports, etc.????
anyone have a handle on this???
Every climate “scientist” and activist should be in forced labor in the oil fields. Every damned one of them. Start with Al Gore, John Kerry, and Greta.
Putin really screwed up. He managed to do what Trump could not, get Germany to scuttle the new pipeline with Russia and instead buy NG from the US.
I’ve thought a lot of this is to be able to implement Trump policy that works under subterfuge.
No credit to Trump.
With numbers given from an internet search I calculated that to replace Russian natural gas the United States would have to ship about half of our gas by boat to Europe to make up the difference.
So you would expect our home heating bills to go up by roughly twice. Since many of our electrical generating plants use natural gas, electricity prices will go up as well. Manufacturing costs would follow.
Natural gas would become quite expensive in Europe and the United States. So energy intensive industries would have to relocate to China, who can import Russian gas.
Let’s go Brandon!
Biden embracing the Trump doctrine vis- a- vis warning of Russian gas to Europe.
HaHaHa
Can’t wait to see the MSM mentions that. /s
Frack Baby, Frack!
Gush about Biden but the idea was poo-pooed a few years ago when Trump tried to convince Europeans to be less dependent on Russia.
Look for Natgas and Oil to double in price.
Everything else up 50%.
That’s the price of preening over Russia.
The US is already the world’s largest producer, but not the largest exporter.
Russia is the 2nd largest producer and largest exporter.
And the west is going to take Russia’s 25% share off the market completely.
Prices will AT LEAST double worldwide.
The same equation applies to Oil and Fertilizers.
And Wheat. And Corn.
There’s a 19% increase for electric rate payers in Knoxville, TN if the customer has natural gas. This was announced a few months ago. At the time, I presumed it was due to the local utility trying to strangle the natural gas market in favor of “greener” alternatives. Sheesh.
And we are still buying Russian oil.
China will buy it but probably at a lower price.
Meanwhile Europeans will be paying 3-5 times more for their gas from us via ship.
On top of grocery shortages and high prices coming soon.
Ukraine is not the only pawn in this Russia-NATO war.

” who can import Russian gas...”
Yes. I read an article in Asia times a few days ago that China had refused Russia’s request for military help but had increased their purchases of gas and oil by substantial amounts to help Putin pay for his war.
It seems Biden’s sanctions on Russia will punish the US more than Russia.
That short term. Short pain for long term gain.
And the EU. Biden doesn’t care. He is a raving lunatic.
