US producer prices climbed 10% in February from a year ago

Wholesale inflation in the United States shot up 10% last month from a year earlier — another sign that inflationary pressures remain intense at all levels of the economy.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that its producer price index — which tracks inflation before it hits consumers — rose 0.8% from January. The increases were in line with economists’ forecasts.

Wholesale energy prices were up 33.8% over the past year and food prices 13.7%.

The report did not include price changes after Feb. 15, missing a spike in energy prices when Russia invaded Ukraine nine days later.

Higher than that.

I would argue 20%.

The government just lies:
https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/gasoline-inflation-in-the-united-states/

They (the US government) are very creative with numbers.

The numbers ALWAYS direct us to where some policy maker wants us to go.

We don't ask the question and then use the numbers to figure out a logical heading/solution. Rather, we already have a solution in hand and then use the numbers to justify it.

(intentional errors applied to get the desired results)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_sharpshooter_fallacy What we do is find that data which fits our narrative or already decided upon decision. It's also what helped bring us into the Iraq war in 2003: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curveball_(informant)

The second most common mistake is mixing correlation with causality. Something can be correlated but that does not mean you have causality: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation#:~:text=The%20idea%20that%20%22correlation%20implies,therefore%20because%20of%20this‘). That's what they do a lot with all this climate nonsense.

High inflation is bad, so the government will jiggle the definitions around, add or delete to their “basket of goods” that are used to calculate inflation until they get a more favorable number.

They do the same thing with unemployment. Unemployment is real low right now, sounds good right? It's actually bad because labor participation rates are horrible:https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-labor-force-participation-rate.htm (I wonder how soon they will doctor those numbers up too?)

The value of my home has jumped 31% in one year!

I know what I paid a year ago for gas and the real inflation is more like 43%, BUT fuel is a major expense that nearly everyone has to pay and it's a substantial amount of peoples income.

Used cars are up nearly 30%.

But somehow inflation is now at 7 something percent? Government magic with numbers.

I call it the US federal government statistical correction constants. Take whatever they tell you, and either multiply or divide it by 3, 10 or 100. In some cases you add or subtract 1/3. ***I'm not kidding!***

Take their original Covid mortality rate of 20% and divide it by 100 and you end up with the real mortality rate which is about .2%.

Take the reported inflation rate when it was 6.8% (what they claimed a few months ago) and multiply it by 3 and you end up with about 20%, which is about where we really are.

Take the US casualties in Iraq and subtract 1/3 and you end up with the actual number. They were including all accidents and natural/normal illnesses which was about 1/3 of the deaths. Back then they wanted to make the number as big as possible to make the war/Bush look bad.

Take Russian casualties today and divide them by 3 and you are about right. The Russians are reporting their casualties (next of kin) and it's even public. Many of these reports are inflating the numbers. Actual KIA is roughly 500, or 1/3 of what our government is allowing to circulate in the media (even though they know better) without correction.

***Either multiply or divide by 3, 10 or 100. In some cases you add or subtract 1/3.*** It really has held true from my experience.

I am an honest and fair businessman. If my costs only go up 10% I only raise my prices 10%. Anything other is pure greedy opportunism, price fixing, and taking advantage of customers.

Period...

In an inflationary period you will be out of business quicker than you say “fairness”.

If you don’t believe me, visit with your local merchants (of your choice) and discuss the current situation with them.

No... you are wrong, that is what greed uses as an excuse. I already did it. This is not my first rodeo. I did it during Carter, I did it during Clinton, and I did it during Obama. My loyal customers made sure I was able to weather the storm. Why were they loyal and went way out of their way to stick with me?

Because I did not kick them while they were down. I would extend credit so they could still get their kids to school, or still keep their own business rolling along. We helped each other through it. And I made sure they knew what was up because I was transparent. I would show them my own bills for product and exactly what I was making over costs.

They do not teach real business anymore. I learned old school... Honesty, customer respect, and appreciation are number one if you want to survive these economic storm cycles that always come around now and then. I will survive this one too. Getting pretty good at it.

Sample your local businesses today—I think you know what they will tell you.

“Sample your local businesses today—I think you know what they will tell you.”

And 90% of their issues are personal lifestyle. They refuse to sacrifice personal lifestyle and tighten their own belts to get through the storm. I have seen it over and over and over. First thing a new start up business owner does is go extend credit for personal luxuries. Before they even open the doors they get “I’m a millionaire” mind and buy two new personal cars, a second summer home, and star taking cruises.

When they say “We are barely making it” they actually mean “We are not making enough to afford our own personal lifestyle”.

the government will take your glass because it’s not fair that you have one while others don’t.

...or because of climate change.

Label it “Property of US Government” so they think they already have it. :)
