In nod to Russia, Ukraine says no longer insisting on NATO membership

President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is no longer pressing for NATO membership for Ukraine, a delicate issue that was one of Russia’s stated reasons for invading its pro-Western neighbor.

In another apparent nod aimed at placating Moscow, Zelensky said he is open to “compromise” on the status of two breakaway pro-Russian territories that President Vladimir Putin recognized as independent just before unleashing the invasion on February 24.

“I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that … NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine,” Zelensky said in an interview aired Monday night on ABC News.

“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.

Hopefully it’s because they’re ready to test their own nukes.

“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.”

Gee, I wonder what gave him that thought?

What a shocker. If this moron had made the same correct decision even a few weeks ago then he could have avoided all of this.
Zelensky acts exactly like the crooked and corrupt Democrats in America that he has aligned himself with. It’s never a recipe for success for anyone other than the members of that little click they call a party.

“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.

The purpose of NATO is to be able to stand up to the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.

All that is left is now just Russia. And NATO is afraid of confrontation with Russia.

It appears Russia has quietly dropped the demands for “denazification,” “demilitarization” and a puppet government

The Russian people were sold on the invasion because of the claim by Putin that the government of Ukraine were “Nazis!!!” and had to be replaced.

A few days ago after it became clear that Putin was going to lose thousands of Russian troops there was a rumor that the Kremlin was ultimately prepared to live with a fall-back position of “give us Donbass and Crimea, do what you want with the rest and a pox on you.”

“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.

The alliance was formed to prevent confrontation with Russia, not to provoke it.

Huh, when Trump was president, we had none of these problems.

You’re about to lose the eastern half of your country - “a nod” isn’t going to do it.

And Putin’s response is, “All well and good, as a start; but what else are you going to do for me?”

That I believe was Putin's objective all along, to gain control of everything east of the Dnieper River, which is where Ukraine's vast oil, gas, and mineral reserves are.

Russia already has Crimea, home to another huge oil and gas reserve.

The rest of Ukraine West of the Dnieper is farmland, but not much in the way of oil reserves.

Hopefully it's because they're ready to test their own nukes.

I am not really sure what you are trying to say. You believe that it would be a good thing for the current corrupt Ukrainian regime to possess nuclear weapons? You do realize that they were installed by through subterfuge with Soros, the Clinton Foundation, the “Big Guy”, Hunter, Clapper, our “intelligence agencies” and other foreign intervention with the intent to destabilize the region and cause difficulties for the Russians?

It was never about what was good for the Ukrainian people. This situation has been pushed to this crisis stage since this successful regime change in 2014 intentionally... for fun and for profit.

Donbass is only a small part of east of the Dniepr River

If this rumor is correct, Ukraine would keep the large majority of territory east of the Deniepr River

He realized that those who used subterfuge to put him in power were going to cash in their chips and not save his sorry butt.

The biden crew aint going to like this. Expect an aggressive move from them soon. No way are they going to let this crises go to waste. They put way too much into it to get it going.

Well essentially all NATO is, is a an agreement on a piece of paper anyway. I have no doubt if Putin said he was going to take some small NATO member like Estonia and would nuke any nation that tried to stop him, the other NATO members would wring their hands, but in the end, do nothing. Ukraine has realized this and also realized they would be better off just being given a ton of high tech weaponry (which they are being given) and allowed to fight Russia themselves

Latest numbers: Ukraine refugees would be equal to America having 15 million refugees out of the country.

Infrastructure and housing destroyed, civilians dying and running, time to face reality while there’s something left to save.
