Hashimotos thyroidectomy here. It would seem that us of the thyroid-less class will be sitting in the catbird seat :)
I have Hashimotos also...but still have my thyroid.
I had a swelling that would have become a goiter, but no cancer. I was offered a choice of the surgery or the radioactive iodine, or drugs to try to suppress the thyroid. I had never had surgery (aside from tonsils as a kid) so I went with the iodine. I ended up 10 years later having 7 surgeries relating to thyroid eye disease. It is thought that radioactive iodine helps to trigger the eye disease, so I would have done better to have the surgery.
