NATO rules out Ukraine no-fly zone: 'Painful decision'

NATO nations will not impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine, despite pleas from some in Ukraine.

Secretary Jens Stoltenberg called it a "painful decision," saying that NATO has a responsibility not to escalate the conflict by engaging Russian forces directly in Ukraine, either on the ground or in the air.

Enforcing a no-fly zone would involve NATO planes in Ukraine potentially shooting down Russian planes, Stoltenberg said Friday. President Biden's administration has likewise ruled out such a move, saying it is "not going to happen."

RUSSIA INVADES UKRAINE: LIVE UPDATES

"We understand the desperation, but we also believe that if we did that, would end up with something that could end in a full-fledged war in Europe involving many more countries and causing much more human suffering," he said.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this week that the West should consider a no-fly zone, and Ukrainian member of Parliament Lesia Vasylenko said Friday that a no-fly zone is "the only thing we need right NOW."

The war in Ukraine will likely be "worse" in the coming days, "with more death, more suffering, and more destruction, as the Russian armed forces bring in heavier weaponry and continue their attacks across the country," Stoltenberg said.

NATO is strengthening its ties with non-member nations Finland and Sweden, Stoltenberg said. He condemned the Russian attack on a nuclear power plant in Ukraine, calling it "reckless."

The head of the International Atomic Energy Administration said that no radiation was released in the attack, and that a fire at the plant was extinguished.

You appear to be in agreement with the RINO troll. Eventually there will be a clean sweep of such RINOs, just as there was on that bugzapper thread.

The nuclear weapons were in the hands of the Soviet military. The Soviet Union fell apart so by default, the Russian military had the nukes. So it’s not like Ukraine had a day regarding the nuclear weapons. The Russians could remove them from the Ukrainian territory. And it would be a bad move if Ukraine announced that they were moving forward with plans to possess nuclear weapons. That would force the Russian military to occupy Ukraine at that point. So it was better to agree. In retrospect, Ukraine should had manufactured their own WMDs secretly kind of like Israel. It would have come really handy right now. Unfortunately, Ukraine’s so corrupt so they couldn’t get themselves to establish a national security policy to protect their nation 28 years later from the time they signed the agreement with Russia.

What is more rational than considering the existential defense of one’s nation? Right now, Ukraine is in an existential war. If they had kept only say... 10 of those nukes... they’d be exchanging mere unpleasantries and nasty words.

We’ll, I still don’t know what you’re taking about. Who’s the RINO troll? In what am I in agreement with?

Oh, and I’m not sifting through 18,000 posts to see what comment I may have made years ago that offends you.

Again, you have to look at it from what we knew 25 years ago. We didn’t then nor today want to have more nations with nukes. It’s the genie that’s out of the bottle and can’t be put back, but it can only get worse with proliferation.

The dude WMarshall is currently running away like a cockroach troll and you posted in support of him.

He pinged me to a thread as a further nudge in his trolling, crossing thread boundaries in his harassment and stalking.

So, since you’re in support of him, it’s time for you to look and see what happens to RINO troll supporters such as yourself.

Then how is it that obambam’s favorite project muzzie country is being encouraged to develop nukes? We knew 25 years ago that they’re incredibly dangerous, but that doesn’t apply to obambam’s boytoys.

If I were Iran, I’d be pursuing nukes. If I were Ukraine, I never woulda let go of them. If I were Israel, I’d quietly let my neighbor-enemies know that I got nukes. If I were Nork, I’d pursue nukes.

Ukraine and South Africa are the only countries that have given them up, and now both of them are on the list of countries that have lost their sovereignty. A rational person would conclude that keeping nukes gives you far more options for keeping your sovereignty.

I’d propose a no-post zone for a few people around here, but I don’t think Jim Robinson would go for it!

First of all, that was mostly in jest. But it was referred to another poster who accuse me of hacking this account. Check my exchanges with WMarshall. I am diametrically opposite of what he represents.

Don’t get me started on the damage Obama, and now Biden, have done to what was a somewhat predictable world order. Demonstrating weakness, apologizing for being blessed, and befriending enemies while dissing long time allies is a recipe for encouraging bad actors.

First of all, that was mostly in jest.
***You forgot the /j tag...

But it was referred to another poster who accuse me of hacking this account.
***I don’t see how. The guy pinged me when I wasn’t even operating on this thread. Right in the middle of him being a cockroach troll.

Check my exchanges with WMarshall. I am diametrically opposite of what he represents.
***Okay, looks like we cleared that up. But you sure expect a lot of people to know your posting history without any context.

This Ukraine situation has torn apart FreeRepublic as never before. People have hair trigger responses. Misunderstandings abound.

As I said, I believe you and I are pretty much on the same side of the fence on this issue.
