One week into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and military analysts are united on one front, at least: Russia’s invasion has not gone entirely to plan, looking disorganized, uncoordinated and sluggish to observers.
...
“It’s going to be worse than what the Russians had in Afghanistan, that’s what the Ukrainians are going to do,” he added, alluding to the then Soviet Union’s drawn-out, bloody, costly and unpopular invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 that lasted 10 years and led to the loss of around 15,000 Soviet soldiers.
...
Russia has not been able to swiftly achieve its military objectives, he said, because “the Russians are not nearly as well trained as they think they are or as we thought they were, they’re not nearly as well equipped,” he said.

Oops. Forgot 5- potential NATO membership for Ukraine. Were I Putin, that would make me uncomfortable also
“Amazing all the disinformation and lies being spread here about Russia’s motivation to invade Ukraine.”
The good thing though is that all the PutinBots on the forum have been ordered to go into maximum propaganda mode so they have outed themselves. They’ll never be able to operate “under the radar” anymore posing as conservatives.
IMO Putin is one of the world's three greatest living killers, right behind President Xi and Anthony Fauci. (Scored in terms of numbers of of earth people killed.)
I see Lindsey Graham's point, that some Russian hero could do the world a great favor by emptying a Makarov into him... (although he might have been less emphatic about what he said and still made his point for the discerning Russian listener).
Anyway, right after Xi and Anthony Fauci, Putin has taken his place in history as an a*****e and a killer. The number of people "rooting for him" here at FR might be counted on one's fingers. I haven't gone to the trouble but that's MHO.
There are a lot of us around here though, who would enjoy some reporting on the subject that is less sensational and more factual. To get directly to the point, it appears that as though things aren't going perfectly for Putin's army FROM HIS EVIL POINT OF VIEW, he, Vladimir Putin, is on course to get exactly what he wants. That is, Russian ownership of a big chunk of eastern Ukraine, giving him land access to the "kinda" warm-water port of Sevastapol, and to install a puppet regime of his liking in charge of the rest of the country. No nuclear weapons and no NATO membership is implicit in this scenario.
Or, maybe Putin simply wants all of Ukraine. I don't pretend to know one from the other. He is invading from all directions so this seems to also be a possibility. His history does in fact indicate an ambition to get the old band back together, so... I don't have the answer, will he go after Moldova and the Baltic states next?
If he aspires to it now is the time, while he has an obvious political advantage visa vis who is acknowledged to be POTUS today.
My opinion is that unless NATO, led by the US of course, jumps in and stops him from doing it, he just might take all of Ukraine (or take it BACK, from his POV), and while he's at it pick up Moldova the way you or I would pick up Mediterranean Avenue. Then, Maybe Romania or the Baltic states, which WOULD be picking a fight with NATO.
So no, no one except possibly a handful of sick people around here wish to see that.
There ARE those who'd like to see some of the right questions asked about it. Why does the US and Europe still, today, buy $88 Million in fuel from Russia, every day?
Why did Joe Biden surrender (how much... no one REALLY knows...) all that military gear to the Taliban that could have been divvied up between Ukraine and Taiwan, I mean as long as we were going to just give it away...
So no, Putin is an a*****e and a thug and a killer, right in his place behind Xi and Fauci. He needs to be contained where he is. Big, big mistake on our part allowing the Rats and the media to steal the election. I particularly blame the media and I would single out Fox News. (Just to give credit where it's due, At Fox News I would single out the Anchor-slut Sandra Smith, who actually argued over the calling of Arizona and the outcome of the election).
Meanwhile our own country is being invaded from the south.
That's enough blah blah blah from me, if you got this far thanks for reading. :)
See tagline.
Good to hear! Now if we can just get smore of dat Chinese crap! spit
I have learned to watch several and try to develop an understanding.
This is also true for events in China. There is no American reporting about the events in China that are far and away more important that Biden stumbling or covid masks.
China is in flux. Serious change is in process
It occurred to me that Putin sees his 70th birthday rapidly approaching. The upper age limit for Russian men is 68.
His own mortality is probably on his mind
He is in fact living beyond his expiry date
Ukraine’s tax agency announced on Tuesday that citizens do not have to declare captured Russian tanks and other equipment as income.
Just a question... What’s so bad about Zelensky? My wife thinks he’s a “hottie”...
Many are saying it is videogame footage, with explanations of how they can tell.
No need to even ask, of course they both got the “maximum search” before they came in the room with him.
Yes, the crime families in DC are demonic, numerous and not confined to one party. Sad State of the Union
About 75% of Ukraine is farm land.
Except for a narrow swath of the Carpathian mountains in western Ukraine, forests and hills are not common.
The only place an insurgency would have an advantage is in urban areas, where many non-combatants, apartments, and businesses would be destroyed, too.
Total fake job. Adam Kinzinger used the photoshop portrait of the pilot, (who is actually really some internet comedian of some sort, I'm not up on all the cultural references lately) sitting in the cockpit of his imaginary F-15, as part of his opinion about why the US needs to jump into the middle of all of it, right now.
Someone will help us out here...
Lol, that includes tanks!
Ukes and Russians have agreements in place to protect the power plants, both this one and Chernobyl. I'll few people know that. The MSM narrative is the Russians are out of control, blah, blah, but they have actually been going very systematically.
Except its muddy season now in Ukraine. Except in the south(Odessa) where its dryer.
Abandoned 2 Russian T-72B3 tanks and BTR-82A APC got stuck in the mud, captured by Ukrainians.
Re: 40 million
Important to remember that about 10 million Ukrainians are ethnic Russians.
I do not know how many support the invasion, but very few of them will actively fight against the Russian Army.
