Ukraine's ambassador to the United Nations on Monday read out what he said were the final text messages from a Russian soldier to his mother - describing his horror at the unfolding war before he was killed.

It came during an emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine's representative, Sergiy Kyslytsya, made an impassioned plea for help, holding up a screenshot of the soldier's texts.

'Mom I'm no longer in Crimea,' they began. 'I'm not in training sessions.'

His mother asks: 'Where are you then? Papa is asking whether I can send you a parcel.'

'What kind of a parcel mama can you send me,' he responds

'What are you talking about? What happened?'

'Mama, I'm in Ukraine,' he responds, before describing the horror unfolding.

'There is a real war raging here. I'm afraid. We are bombing all of the cities together, even targeting civilians.

'We were told that they would welcome us and they are falling under our armored vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass.

'They call us fascists. Mama. This is so hard.'

Kyslytsya concluded the exchange by saying the last message was sent 'moments' before the soldier was killed.

The way this ends is when more and more of the Russian people realize they have been lied to by the Putin-Media complex in Russia, in particular when the circle of elite who are tied to the Putin regime realize that Putin is trying to fulfill some sort of Hitler-like dream of uniting the Great Russians, the Belarussians and the Little Russians in a new reich

Then, they will look for a way to end it, provided Putin does not somehow successfully conclude it soon

I make an effort to regularly surf through Russian social media to get a rough sense of attitudes, realizing of course there are a lot of Kremlebots pushing the regime talking points and many regular Russians are afraid to voice their opinions

Nevertheless my sense is that most people are still in stages 1 and 2 of Kuebler-Ross

But it is impossible to forever isolate Russians from other sources of information in the world, at some point perceptions will change

One thing that would help Putin hold public opinion would be direct military activities by the US

Don't be surprised if Putin tries a false flag framing us for something as a way to sustain Russian support

The unity of the EU against the Russian invasion makes it hard for the Putin supporters to direct all hatred at the Americans as a PR strategy and is a big game-changer

If China comes out affirmatively against the invasion that would be huge, many Russians are saying, well we can always do business with China
