EU countries will send "fighter jets" to Ukraine at Kyiv's request to help it counter the Russian air and land assault, the bloc's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Sunday.
"We're going to provide even fighting jets. We're not talking about just ammunition....

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has told the EU "they need the kind of fighting jets that the Ukrainian army is able to operate... some member states have these kinds of planes," Borrell said.

LOL
Poland most likely. As a NATO member, near theater, with similar equipment to use.
“They’ll be in the air with Ukrainian pilots pretty much immediately, I’ve read”
While I’m sure the Ukranian pilots can fly, the question is whether they can fly Western planes.
They might take volunteers.
“Russia already has made sure that Ukraine is a no-fly zone for any, but Russian military. Any fighter jet donations are basically throw-away.”
Good point, the S-400s alone will ‘neutralize’ any NATO aircraft (thereby making it that much easier for Putin’s next move, by the way).
Oh joy, combine this with the US call for Americans to leave Russia and the russian paranoia will be sky high.
[And just like Imperial Japan, this will widen the war.
Sending NATO fighter to Ukraine (What happened to “ghost”?) will be met with a response. It may be them getting attacked prior to entering the theater.]
WE DON’T GET IT!
Good friend, Christian, ex-Navy officer is now in Czecheslovokia & ALL of former Soviet. bloc &. neighbors like Germany are scared they are next after Ukraine. EU is fired up big time to do whatever it takes to stop Putin now.
War likely to escalate soon & for the first time it won’t be the US leadng.
a LOT OF TANKS WOULD MEET THEIR DEMISE. Nato trained for that Russian tank kill for decades as you know. The A-10 would be perfect but only the USA has them.
“In reality, though, it will probably just be ex-Warsaw Pact NATO members handing over their Warsaw Pact surplus. Plenty of mothballed Sukhois and MiG’s.”
If they can get the engines started. Risky move to use NATO pilots - at the very least they disable the ejection systems, so they don’t get captured if shot down.
Don’t laugh but a Stuka would be pretty effective against Russian armor and helicopters.
“Plenty of mothballed Sukhois and MiG’s”
That is correct. Planes mothballed or planned to be retired.
Will cost donating countries very little.
Imagine the Poles flying A-10s? It would be a cazy time for sure. They are daring pilots as they proved in the Battle of Britain years ago.
Arm the fighters up fuel them and use their pilots to fly them into the no fly zone!!!
The Ukrainians can drive around and play A10 burping sound tracks out of load big speakers to terrorize the Russian tanks crews.
The EU is claiming that its fighters will be over Ukraine within hours.
If true, this may imply they're being flown by EU pilots, not members of the Ukrainian air force.
Quite a task to exfiltrate Ukrainian pilots + have them fly back foreign planes.https://t.co/QZuGMHFjvn— Clint Ehrlich (@ClintEhrlich) February 28, 2022

This is a bad idea on many levels. Let the thing play out, it’s not our fight.
