As Ukraine enters its third day of Russian bombardment following President Vladimir Putin’s invasion this week, a senior defense official said Saturday that Moscow has become "increasingly frustrated" by the lack of momentum.

"We have indications that the Russians are increasingly frustrated by their lack of momentum over the last 24 hours, particularly in the north parts of Ukraine," the senior defense official said. "We also continue to see indications of viable Ukrainian resistance."

Oh, and exactly How-in-the-F did ‘Nazi Ukrainians’ elect a Jewish, former nightclub comedian as their president?

US officials and the Pentagon are the worst possible source of information about this—or anything.

At this point they are pathological liars and propagandists.

What is happening on the ground is Putin had a plan to take control of Ukraine by military invasion and paramilitary operations.

That plan is well underway.

The “nation” of Ukraine trusted NATO—not understanding that the West is a decadent and decaying alliance.

Fatal error.

There will be no “nation” of Ukraine any more.

(Btw, it should be super obvious, but a second term President Trump would have negotiated an agreement with Putin that would have prevented this—but the Democrats stole the election and went with their Russia Russia Russia posturing, whining, arrogance and finger-pointing—and Putin called their bluff.)

Would be quite interesting if China, sensing a weakened Russia, went after the Russian Far East at this opportune moment.

Both countries are corrupt. We shouldn’t break a single American fingernail defending either one. The aggressor, though, is Russia.

I don’t get it. They’re outside of Kiev in 2 days. It took the US 3 weeks to get to Baghdad.

Fog of war. 24 hour media. Social media.

That said. A lot of Russians are conscripts. They thought they were doing maneuvers in Belarus and Dontesk and Lutansk. Now they are invading Ukraine. It's like Americans invading Mexico. Our hearts wouldn't be in it.

I don't think Putin would have struck without China saying that it had Russia's back. Putin and Xi issued a joint communique on the eve of the Winter Olympics, declaring their opposition to any expansion of NATO and affirming that the island of Taiwan is a part of China.

Should the Russians fail to defeat the Ukrainians, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that China may stab its partner in the back. It is possible that the Chinese may invade the Central Asian republics that were part of China under the Manchu Dynasty.

A Putin fan-boy! I knew if I looked long enough I’d find one! So let me guess — you have that poster of him shirtless and riding the horse hanging over your bed?

Imho Russia and China had a simple deal.

Russia takes Ukraine with no Chinese active resistance, ditto for China taking Taiwan.

Both understand the basic Sun Tzu doctrine—attack when your enemy is weak.

The West has never been this weak in our lifetime—with idiotic leaders, fanatical ideology focusing on “diversity” and “climate change” and sexual perversion—that has badly weakened western military operations and morale.

Ukraine claiming they already killed Kadyrov’s top Lieutenant near Kyiv. It won’t be long now.

The question is, does he think that this is preparation for an offensive? If not, doesn’t this kind of point to him wanting to make sure he has a clear way for future Russian expansion?

I don’t see this being a net positive for him. The west is pretty much obligated to cut Russia off economically, and trying to hold onto Ukraine will be difficult if the locals don’t fully co-operate. This is likely to be costly in terms of occupation forces and integrating the country into Russia.

Before this invasion, it was unlikely Finland and Sweden were going to join NATO. Now, they are pretty much spooked enough and if they join in sanctions, there is little economic leverage over them for Russia.

The only nation I can see benefitting is China, since the sanctions will ensure that Russian goods have to be sold to China, and since there are few other markets, they will have the ability to control Russia’s vast resources.

This is also opening rifts within Russia with people protesting, even under the threat of arrest.

This is nothing but a tragedy for the civilization formerly known as Christendom.

I agree, and Putin and Xi would not have been so assertive had the West been perceived as decadent, even terminally so. Kaiser Wilhelm II, Hitler, Tojo, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev wrongly made similar assumptions. However, decades of moral and political decline may prove the current Chinese and Russian dictators right. I don't like it, but it is possible.

This will be over quickly—a humiliation for NATO and the United States—and a lesson learned.

The real upcoming drama will be China invading Taiwan.

That will not be that easy.

And why are not the many Jews in Ukraine lining up to “denazify” Ukraine. They had no problem fighting real nazis in WW2 and tracking them to the end of the earth for half a century after.

How are the Russians underperforming?

It’s 50 miles from the border and the invaders snuck in through the Chernobyl zone. They’ve been stopped on the other side of the reservoir at the very fist border town and are no where near Kyiv on the eastern side.
