Robbery
I assume most trucks operated by independents are leased or purchased with loans secured by the vehicle. So lots of legal issues here for sure.
Elon Musk should buy them all.
Hey fascist Mayor, no mercy for thieves.
Messing with truckers, and their livelihood, doesn’t seem like a good idea?
That’s grand theft auto.
Conceptually, it’s no different from advocating that People break and enter the Mayors house and take what they want. That’d be wrong, of course.
But in Castreau’s communism, there is no more rule of law.
The equipment is leveraged. Bank of Montréal bought one of the big three US lenders operating in this market five years ago, so they’ve already hit one of their biggest commercial banks below the water line by driving their borrowers into loan default. They are holding very expensive trucks that the lenders have liens against. The lenders are going to repo them. If the gov’t fights them on that, they’ll bleed out storage and legal fees until they get a chance to sell the trucks in a market already artificially flooded with repo’d equipment. Then they can pay off the loans. If they assume title to the trucks, they could assume responsibility for the balances owed. The lenders who are stuck doing this with repos are currently losing $20,000 to $125,000 per repo’d unit.
Maybe this mayor has magic powers. Or maybe he’s an ignorant, childish putz.
Stealing is bad.
Stealing things and then selling them is also bad.
Shut down the majority of truck deliveries within Kanada and watch them squirm.
The ty rants better be careful. When the people have nothing left to lose, that’s when “it’s go time”.
Stealing is OK when the government does it. Reminds me of the old saying, “don’t steal, the government hates the competition.”
These Canadian protestors were idealistic and naive. They had a valid gripe. The gov’t made an illogical decision that made their working conditions intolerable. They would have put more pressure squarely on the gov’t in the same period of time by announcing a strike for that reason and parking their machines at home. They’d have been withdrawing their services at a time when motor freight flow was already badly challenged by a shortage of qualified operators.
Instead they challenged the gov’t while making a concentrated target of themselves—a target for blame-shifting and then for reprisal. Now the gov’t can paint them as a destructive element if a strike coming after this makes things hard on the general population. It ain’t how you play the game, it’s how you place the blame.
We need to be learning from this and thinking a lot more clearly in the next round. There’s no excuse for bungling matters of this importance.
Mad Max’s Interceptor had this special switch.

Steal their money and steal their means of making a living. How much more will the Canadians put up with?
Peaceful protest. Sell my truck and peace will be over.
