Ambassadors usually do not have to announce they are against suicide bombers.
But for one Biden nominee, it turned out to be necessary.
In 2006, Amy Gutmann was the president of the University of Pennsylvania. During a Halloween party in her home, she posed for a photo with a student who was dressed as a terrorist.
The picture resurfaced after Gutmann was approved by the Senate on Feb. 8 to be President Joe Biden’s ambassador to Germany.
According to a Jerusalem Post article from 2006, Gutmann only issued an apology after days of growing controversy over the costume worn by the Syrian-born engineering student.
In a statement, Gutmann said, “I abhor terrorism, suicide bombers and everything they do. My record is unabashedly clear on this point."
Not just clear, but unabashedly clear. She must have really meant it.

Everyone whoever watched and laughed at Jalals bomb pranks is hereby disqualified from diplomatic service.
He's a Syrian born engineering student, so its quite possible.
He was a Syrian engineering student. Probably supports terrorism.
Wonder how many terrorists Biden let into the country with the no border rule?.
Wait for flash then count huh Joey.
I am not offended because it’s a Halloween Party.
That being said, we should ALWAYS hold liberals up to THEIR OWN Standards (Alinsky Rule).
So yes! Call her out for it. Make her life miserable! DO NOT accept her fake apology. DO NOT allow her to “move on”.
This picture has triggered me, pun intended.
(Booger picker is on the bang switch)
Can’t recall if the harry/hitler pic was halloween or just harry partying in Vegas.
I only say, just do the same to them as they would do if it were a Republican.
Make the enemy live up to their own standards.
Just 5 years after 911 and she thought it was okay to pose with a Middle Eastern dressed as a terrorist?
Harry’s...not “happy’s” darn Autocorrect!ll
>> Maybe. I suspect the high road leads to camps. <<
Do you think this will ever change anyone’s minds? People like Steven Colbert get the left’s ridicule into the minds of the low-information voters. The Babylon Bee might be funnier than Colbert, but the low road to the low-info voters will always be enemy territory; Babylon Bee is for high-information voters.
We’re not changing minds by taking the high road. Our minds are being changed.
We have ceded so much ground and continue to do so at such a fantastic rate that I suspect this debate no longer even matters.
I do understand your point, and I’m not sure what the right answer is. But it appears that being polite was not the right battle plan.
Much ado about nothing.
Dressing up like Americans won’t dress up?
I was being sarcastic. It is ridiculous that a United States official would appear in such a picture, and she should be dismissed immediately.
If this had happened under Donald Trump, there would have been hell to pay.
If the suicide vest guy had been wearing a Ku Klux Klan costume, or had been wearing blackface, would she still keep her job?
The hypocrisy and double standards are just beyond belief, but no more beyond belief than the inability of people on the left to see their hypocrisy and double standards.
Of course not.
Be nice to them.
He’s even got the ugly beard down pat. If it is at her house, she knows him pretty well so what’s his name?
I dressed up as Minnie Mouse one year but didn’t look nearly as authentic.
