Australian authorities said they plan to reopen the country's borders to international tourists on Monday after closing it for nearly two years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Reuters reported.
Since November, Australia has allowed citizens and residents to travel in and out of the country, then admitted international students and some employees. On Monday, leisure and business travelers will be able to enter the country, according to Reuters.

The bastards made me sit in a secure waiting room for 7 hours in Perth because no one came to announce the flight I was connecting to so I had to wait for the next one. American citizen with a Dip passport and they wouldn’t even let me go out to the lousy food court in the airport and come right back. I hate Australia.
My sentiments exactly.
Can anyone say, “Hotel California”? If you go, they may not let you leave.
It’s like doing tourism of the Uyghur slave camps in China, now.
Agree with all that....not to mention it’s 17 hours in the air from California just to get there.
No thanks 👎
Yep. Who needs a camp as their accommodations following a 15-hour plane ride?
They can’t be trusted.
The shenanigans of the past two years has greatly lessened my desire for international travel. We went to South America in 2016 and Europe in 2019.
There must be years of good behavior by foreign leaders before I even consider leaving the US again.
Note to Australia’s Deep State: You couldn’t pay me to go now.
Screw that. I wouldn’t travel to Australia if they offered me my own kangaroo.
Fascist bastards.
But that won’t stop me from calling their tourist Bureau and wasting a bunch of time , ending up with the Covid protocols and say something like “No need to visit your NAZI state, we already have that here”.
While you’re there? For all you know they might change the rules before the plane lands and you’ll be lucky if they generously allow you to get a return flight at your expense instead of going to the camp at your expense.
I’ve always thought it would be neat to go there, but not anymore. It’s not worth the risk of ending up stuck in some isolation camp. If they treat their own citizens badly, what would they do to a visitor?
DITTO (with EVERYONE on this thread)!
I did eight hours to and from Europe, packed in like a sardine. I enjoyed the flights, because I always have a window seat and I like to look around. I saw the Eiffel Tower, Normandy Beach, three of the Great Lakes at once, vast miles of Canadian wilderness, the town of Penzance, and green Irish countryside, all from the plane window.
Seventeen hours is another matter, especially if there are a bunch of psychos at the other end of the flight who may decide to never let me leave, based on the whim of whatever nutjob is in power at the time.
Australia is off my bucket list. The kangaroos will have to get along without me, somehow.
I feel the same. No longer have the desire to visit Alcatraz down under.
Me too; but, I don’t want to visit a fascist country.
A few new banned dictatorships on my list
Australia
New Zealand
Austria
Canada
Tahiti’s worse.
...a profit?
Ditto that. I’ve always wanted to go there, but they’ll never get any tourism $$$ from me.
I really don’t know how much the rest of the world beyond FR knew about the devastation of civilization in Australia, but I would not be betting on the Aussie tourism trade at this time.
“Ditto that. I’ve always wanted to go there, but they’ll never get any tourism $$$ from me.”
Australia, New Zealand and some others on the same list for me.
