Yesterday, a group of Ottawa residents won a private class action lawsuit to freeze at least 146 cryptocurrency wallets and bank assets tied to the main organizers of Canada’s “Freedom Convoy” in a bid to stanch funding for the ongoing demonstrations.
Known as a Mareva injunction, the lawsuit was filed by Ottawa residents Zexi Li, Geoffrey Devaney, and the Happy Goat Coffee business against key convoy organizers including Chris Barber, Benjamin Dichter, Tamara Lich, and Nicholas St. Louis. The hearing was held in private without public notice or access, lawyer Paul Champ who represents the residents bringing the suit, told The Star, a Toronto-headquartered Canadian newspaper. Li earlier this month won an injunction which barred protesters from honking their horns in downtown Ottawa.
The suit is unprecedented for the country, as it’s the “first time in Canada that a Mareva injunction [has] ever been used to freeze cryptocurrency,” says Matthew Burgoyne, a crypto- and blockchain-focused partner at Calgary-based McLeod Law. He added that the injunction was a powerful legal “remedy which can have significant consequences for a defendant.” The defendants weren’t given advance notice of the suit, says Champ.
Champ, who hired a private investigator and cryptocurrency expert, found that the organizers’ crypto movements outpaced the government’s attempts to track them.
Under the injunction, the named defendants, and those affiliated with them, are restricted from moving fiat and cryptocurrency assets in the bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets specifically named in the suit. The respondents must now respond to the court and “submit to an examination under oath” regarding their assets and what the assets have been used for. The Mareva injunction is only used when there’s a “high risk” that the defendant will “dispose, encumber or…remove its assets from the jurisdiction during the course of litigation,” says Burgoyne.

The organizers of and participants in the “protest” are going to be held responsible for lost revenue caused to Ottawa businesses. Local businesses always have to take it in the ass when these people come to town. Enough is enough! The truckers illegally blocked city streets for a month. They refused to disperse when they were lawfully ordered to do so. Normal people are sick of outsiders coming into their cities and making them unlivable with extended protests and then going home and leaving behind chaos and a mess. Trucks are being impounded, funds linked to the organizers are being seized. They will be sued and they will lose.
Use cash
It is nice to see you again.
Nazis also had legal orders people had to follow. Fascists also had legal orders people had to follow. Communists also had legal orders people had to follow.
Didn't make any of those orders morally sound.
Speaking of moral vs. legal orders: Why were the vaccine mandates never revisited? After all, the vaccines are outdated, proof against varients of Covid that no longer circulate! Furthermore, they may actually cause harm.
If Trudeau had bent on this mandate, the truckers would have quickly dispersed. You seem to lay all the fault on the truckers. Seems to me a large portion, if not a majority portion, lays at Trudeau's feet.
The original "Memorandum of Understanding" issued by the Canadian Convoy organizers called for the immediate overthrow of the Canadian government to be replace by an unelected committee of truckers. So, the truckers roll into town with an overthrow the government manifesto. Then they clog up the city with 4000 trucks for 4 week and refuse to disperse. So, did Trudeau grossly overplay his hand? Yes. Should the Vax mandate be rescinded? Yes. Do the truckers get a good chunk of the blame based on what was in the original MOU, the length of their stay and their refusal to disperse? Yes.
The original "Memorandum of Understanding" issued by the Canadian Convoy organizers called for the immediate overthrow of the Canadian government to be replace by an unelected committee of truckers.
They never once called for the overthrow of the government, but -- as usual -- the opposition and the media characterized it that way.
No, this was an important protest, albiet poorly thought out.
I remain focused on the provocation that caused this protest: The mandate of vaccinations that provide zero protection against the varients of Covid that are prevalant, and such vaccines may even be harmful.
The MOU outlines an extorion scheme where the Queens Representative would be coercered into disolving the lower house and then would allow the Senate and a committee of truckers to unilaterally overturn Federal laws
In this case the parties are “THE PEOPLE OF CANADA”, the “SENATE OF CANADA”, and “THE GOVERNOR GENERAL OF CANADA”,the highest authorities representing the Federal Government. The matter to be discussed and agreed upon is this; The Senate of Canada and the Governor General, combined referred to as the Federal Government
Notice they don't mention the Lower House (which they plan to eliminate) as part of the Government. The Government will magically become the Senate and the Trucker Committee. Specifically: ARTICLE 3. MANDATE
a. CU (Convoy Organizers) & SCGGC (Senate) agree to form a committee, called the Citizens of Canada Committee (CCC) (truckers).
b. SCGGC undertakes and appoints authorized (CCC) representatives.
c. CU undertakes and appoints authorized (CCC) representatives.
Then the new trucker forced entity would unilaterally reverse laws passed previously.
In exchange for complying with this, the truckers would then agree to call off the goons: "j. By signing this “Memorandum”, CU will immediately stop “Operation Bear Hug Ottawa”, demonstration / convoy"
The whole thing is extortion by threatening to choke off Ottawa with the Convoy which they call Operation Bear Hug Ottawa.
I do not accept your cherry-picking of this document, nor do I accept your interpretation thereof.
And once again, I return to the initial provocation for any of this — something you simply refuse to discuss — which is the mandate of the administration of a vaccine that is outdated and ineffective against the prevalent form of Covid, and which may actually be harmful.
Your refusal to discuss this initial provocation informs me that you have little objection to it.
That makes you an enemy of freedom and free will.
You can't cherry pick a document that only has 3 pages of actual content. We're not talking about The Book of Leviticus here. The thing says what it says.
Explaining bad behavior by complaining about being provoked is how children behave.
HA! So our Founding Fathers were children???!?
Sorry, bucko. Tyrannical actions get people to behave 'badly'.

I told you in post 125 that the vax mandate is wrong.
Good.
So now, what would be your method of bringing worldwide attention to this travesty, and fighting it?
This was theirs. Wrong as it might have been, it did bring attention to the problem.
Further: Canadian truckers have almost no occupational opportunities without crossing into America. For many of them, it is life and death. People pushed in to this situation may act less-than-rationally.
The initial provocation was most of the problem. Their reaction was poor, of course, but people are human.
