The premise of Republican fortunes rising is not entirely accurate. It is not so much the Republicans are rising, as the realization that the Democrats are going to be irreversibly damaged for the next few years is becoming impossible to ignore. Republicans like McCarthy are trying to get ahead of reality before it goes public to save their careers.

The parties may be GOP vs Democrat, but the real political division is Populist vs the Swamp. Have a niece who is a pro abortion Wiccan who I would never think of as a Republican or conservative, but the pandemic abuses has definitely made her put her on the Populist side as she is angry and fed up with the Swamp pushing the jabs and destroying the economy as her family struggles.
