The podcaster Joe Rogan did not join a mob that forced lawmakers to flee for their lives. He never carried a Confederate flag inside the US Capitol rotunda. No one died trying to stop him from using the n-word.
But what Rogan and those that defend him have done since video clips of him using the n-word surfaced on social media is arguably just as dangerous as what a mob did when they stormed the US Capitol on January 6 last year. Rogan breached a civic norm that has held America together since World War II. It's an unspoken agreement that we would never return to the kind of country we used to be.
That agreement revolved around this simple rule: A White person would never be able to publicly use the n-word again and not pay a price.

The unfunny Trevor Noah (Daily Show) had a series of antisemitic tweets and comments uncovered and Rogan spoke out his behalf. Noah bashed Rogan this week.
Despite the 1st Amendment, there are words that you are not allowed to say without bringing personal destruction upon yourself. Oh wait, you can say it depending on what race you are.

In my lifetime, the Congress building was bombed a couple of times.
"On March 1, 1971, a bomb exploded in the Capitol building. While the explosion did not injure anyone, it caused some $300,000 in damage. A group calling itself the Weather Underground claimed to be behind the bombing and said it was in protest of the ongoing U.S.-supported bombing of Laos. Thirteen years later, on November 7, 1983, a bomb tore through the second floor of the Senate wing of the Capitol. The device detonated late in the evening and no one was harmed, but it caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. A group calling itself the Armed Resistance Unit later claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation for military actions in Grenada and Lebanon. Seven people were eventually arrested in connection with the attack."

I don’t listen to Rogan so I can’t comment on what his underlying attitudes about race actually are. I doubt anyone who was a true inciter of racial hate would actually be given a multi-million-dollar contract to host a podcast that garners over 100 million listeners.
Any word only exists in the context of the intent of the speaker. To use a racial epithet as a derogatory term directed at a real person or group is an act of inhumanity and should be admonished. To use it in other contexts such as part of a quote or in academic works is not intended to offend and should be understood by honest people in that vein.
CNN does not represent an honest source. They are invested in a radical movement popularized by Saul Alinsky to exploit and exacerbate societal differences to destroy Western culture and promote a cult of perfect power. Joe Rogan is a liberal who is showing heretical tendencies in his thinking that suggest he is not loyal to the cult. As such he must be excommunicated into submission and silence.
