This is why drones and amazon are the future.
I retired from long haul a few years back. It used to be a freedom based way to make a living. Governments have destroyed it as a career, they sucked every bit of pleasure out of the job and have left the drivers as overly monitored slaves to regulations.
Driverless trucks are coming faster than you think. My company is working with them now.
Truck drivers can't afford to make a single mistake. They are under intense pressure to get their loads delivered and passenger cars tailgate and dart around them like annoying flies.
They are also underpaid and overworked.
Give the truckers their space. Don't get in their blind spots. Don't annoy them. Just stay out of their way. Let them get the goods where they need to go.
“I have been told that truckers, and trade workers, are not held in high esteem in on-line dating markets. Consequently, many young men don’t want to pursue these occupations.”
Perfect opening for the LGBTQ+ crowd to take over all the trucking jobs!
How about no time and a half after 40. Days sometimes weeks on the road. Constantly monitored by DOT and LEO’s. Dispatchers who always blames everything on the driver when most of the time it is their screwup. Companies that do not maintain their equipment. Held over weekends/holidays to get unloaded without compensation. Putting up with shithead 4 wheeler drivers who brake check you for the fun of it and Swift drivers who should never ever be behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler.
Actually, the government ruined the job, just like it ruined teaching and is ruining nursing. Where once there were vocations, into which we could pour our energies serving God and our fellow man, now it is toil and paperwork above all. Instead of one potential micromanager to buzz around your head, there is now no end to them, there is a swarm, and the swarm never sleeps.
Don’t you know it. Long gone are the days of 2 logbooks, running the scales when a little heavy and on occasion sneakin in a little LTL your boss doesn’t know about.
Spoke with my usual delivery guy yesterday and asked him about the driver shortage. Since his outfit is overseen federally they cannot get enough drivers due to mandatory drug testing. Young guys don't want to give up weed for a starting salary of $38 per hour, full benefits, vacation and overtime. We're going to have this problem with us for a long time.
4 wheelers brake checking had me walk away.
Last one I run up over their trunk. Came out of the cab with my tire thumper...they drove off. Walked away that week.
Of course Amazon uses trucks, but I also think they will continue to build huge warehouses so eventually they will rely less on 18-wheelers and more on the Euro-style vans I see all over my neighborhood at all hours of the day. Amazon and Walmart seem to pay their truckers well so I’m not sure they will have a shortage. I’m not saying a trucker shortage won’t hurt, but I am saying that companies have been figuring out ways to get rid of human workers for decades and they are figuring it out quickly.
I really want to see the drone that will be delivering my office chair.
And no. Did not do business with commiezon.
I have a dream. A dream of seeing Bezos sitting with a cardboard sign reading "Bet you can't hit me with a quarter" and I have a washer in my pocket.
Your explanation matches what I’m always saying as a supervisor to other supervisors: “The person who does the sweeping should choose the broom.”
I drive the speed limit and the 4 wheelers in the split speed limit states are complete idiots.
They think the space in front of my Truck is for them to go for an exit.
It doesn't happen once a day, it happens all the time.
I instead of slowing down and getting behind me to make an exit they gotta get in front.
Wish I had a rocket to blast everyone of the idiots.
Michigan and Illinois drivers are the worst!
Masked or unmasked?
“mandatory drug testing”
I have heard a lot have failed this as well.
Evidently you have never driven in New Orleans, Louisiana.
If you hate trucks so much don't ever use anything they transport.
Put your actions where your mouth is!
Especially if drugs are made to appear alluring by legalizing weed and its progeny.
Trucks passing trucks is most of the problems on interstates. It is magnified in hilly areas.
